Trade with Panthers

Description
Assuming no CBOs and cap remains 81.5 million for the short term.

Dermott extended during season, 3 million AAV for 5 years.
(See Petterrsson deal from Pittsburgh as comparable but less money due to less offensive ability)
Mikheyev gets same deal as Engvall due to games played.

I think Florida trade makes sense as Hoffman and Dadonov both expiring, and if not brought back to help shed spending, Johnsson is low cost add.
They have guys like Borgstrom and maybe even Tippet ready to go.

I think Lehtonen is underrated and dont see Dermott being traded right now due to the long term outlook on the D.

It is too soon to tell if Lehtonen or Barabanov will have future with Leafs beyond this season.

I'd rather Leafs not sign Clifford to deal to avoid paying the upgraded pick, not against giving tryout deal.

After the season is over, I feel Hyman will walk as UFA because of cap reasons and Kapanen used as trade bait for an RD.

Goaltending, the playoffs could determine if a short term extension is offered to Andersen. If doesnt play good I could see Andersen leaving as UFA once next season is over.
And that point Leafs will be forced to deal for goalie again just like they did when they acquired Andersen.

Expansion draft exposure =
FWs : Kerfoot and Petan.
D : Muzzin or Holl, I feel one of these will be asked to waive the NTC to be exposed but Seattle will be offered an asset to not select them.
G : Kaskisuo

Wallmark is nothing more then a 4c who's above average defensively. Other then that hes not very good and even then he isnt that good defensively. If they're willing to spend a fair bit on a 4c they should just sign Johan Larsson as a ufa who won't get much more and is way better defensively and slightly better offensively. Larsson has extremely good underlying numbers as a 2c in buffalo with relatively weak linemates facing some of the toughest competition in the NHL based off his usage. If the leafs signed him and used him properly they would have am extremely valuable player who could be worth around 5 million on a 2 million dollar contract

Leafs just don't have the cap space for a $2M 4C. If they shifted Kerf to 3LW and had Larsson playing 3C it might work but I don't see them doing that. Itd be one nasty 3rd line though

Larsson would be a great 3c imo. In this certain situation they have 1.5 million in cap space so they could subtract Wallmark and replace him with Larsson and they would still have some cap space left over so that's why I brought it up. If these things dont happen irl they certainly wont be able to spend more then 3 million total on the 4th line so Larsson and Wallmark will be out of the equation

Since Dadanov and Hoffman are both RWs, I think Florida might be more interested in Kasperi Kapanen. I'd like to think about KK for Florida's 2020 second and the newly-signed RW Cole Schwindt.

Dont see Kapanen being moved right now.
Both Hoffman and Dadonov are left handed, play Johnsson on right side, hes done it before.

I think Wallmark can play good enough to be 3C but I do have him at 4C. He had a down year and this is buying low on him.
Leafs need to shed a salary and to me that guy will be Johnsson.

I agree Larsson can do what your saying but the point is remove the 3.4 cap hit, Larsson is a UFA so unless Johnsson is dealt for a pick... no go.

I would like to see Johnsson tradedi with no player or cap returned to the Leafs. Leafs 4th and 5th centre would be Gauthier and maybe Spezza. Use the cap to get a Dman. (if possible).
