Then some people inserted their own speculation on top of that rumor. That's what you have there.

Not being salty but it won't be accepted. I read to what you eluded to in the EDM journal i believe, just don't think it happens.

As a fan, if its not a 1 for 1 swap then i don't want the trade to happen. If you want a low level prospect like Sean Day to satisfy Holland's need that JP is that much better than Lias then sure, knock yourself out.

Mittelstadt for Puljujarvi makes a ton of sense for both teams IMO.

Holland was asking for a 1st in December. It's not December anymore and Lias has gone out and matched Puljujarvi's production in Europe. Now that the deal has resurfaced, the terms have been adjusted towards a 1 for 1.

I wouldnt do it but positionally it makes sense as the Sabres need a RWer and hes falling out of favor as a middle 6 center with Buffalo, depending on who they take in the draft. This seems like an easy deal that Botterill can get done, but still, blows up in his face

You are correct. Holland was indeed asking for a 1st. And the Rangers said hell no. Then Holland softened to 1st and Oilers add a prospect. And the Rangers said absolutely not. That was in November. The entire notion of the Rangers adding was based on Lias' struggles. Then Puljujarvi went out of his way to say he wanted to play in New York, then Lias went out and dominated the SHL with the same production that Puljujarvi had. And so now rumblings have re-emerged of Puljujarvi for Lias straight up now that Lias (like Puljujarvi) has refound his game.

Anyone got the actual source to the rumor? That would help dispel anyone saying that it isn't true if they could just read it themselves.

Yeah I get the hesitation from the Sabres point of view. Edmonton doesn't really have anything to lose because the bridge has been burned with Puljujarvi at this point. If he's a bust, oh well they got an asset out of him. If he's not a bust, oh well he didn't want to play in Edmonton anyways. Sabres have a lot to lose since Mittelstadt does still have a lot of potential so if he works out with the Oilers and Puljujarvi is a bust, it makes them look like they gave up on a talented prospect too early.

You're not going to get teams to negotiate in public...so that's not going to happen.

Yeah I get it. Rumors are generally just that. The point was just if you can cite something specific, it eliminates the "You're just pulling it out your rear end" type responses. Make what you will of any of it but at least this idea wasn't just created in the mind of OP and posted as rumor. IMO there's a difference. The latter is just annoying.

This was the specific citation. What I was responding to was "Then some people inserted their own speculation on top of that rumor. That's what you have there." I read that as some kids on CapFriendly made that up and posted it, which is not true, it was published by an author with sources within the Rangers, 5 days ago. I know it was a rumor, but from what we know it isnt just a fan theory made up on a message board, but someone who is paid to follow the teams. But believe me, I'm the first one who will say the media is full of $h!t, still have to take it with a grain of salt, but generally more credible than someone on hockeybuzz.

Oh yeah I agree. That was precisely my point. I don't care either way but if someone can at the very least show a source, however credible it is, that at least shows the idea was not OP's.
