I kicked the Steen trade/buyout/re-sign idea around on my own a few months ago, I think for it to work for Steen he would need to be re-signed at a cap hit of 1.2million for that one year. That cap hit plus the buyout money he would receive over the next two years would equal his salary if he played out his contract.

I don't see how Taylor Hall is a good fit for this team. When he is on he's great. When he is off he tries too hard and hogs the puck.

I think MTL use their cap space on free agents this summer BUT if they don't and are going for a 3rd retool year I could see this happening. For 5.75M$ you're not getting a 2nd rounder back doe, a mid round pick (4th) maybe but not a 2nd.

San Jose isn't giving away that first-round pick they gulled Tampa out of.

One man's backup is another man's starter. Allen's been elite this year and only has one year left on his contract. Not a bad gamble if you can figure out a way to dump Jones. But yeah it's an overpay on the pick.
