(What I would attempt to do if I were GM)

If we have to give up a 1st round pick +prospect, i'd rather it be on a guy like Saad over Zucker.

yeah, that 3rd string AHL goalie will totally fix everything if the Leafs starter is out!

He probably doesn't know that DeSmith would provide them very affordable, league average goaltending, that could get them by until Anderson is healthy.

I think your trade makes a lot of sense. Pens swap 2nd and 3rd with leafs, but leafs gain desmith. this is an optimal trade for both teams imo

Yeah, i mean it's not like he's the Pens third string goalie who is currently playing in the AHL, exactly like I said, and would more likely than not be a poor substitute for an actual NHL starter!

Wow, so complicated!

but he'd be better than what the leafs have and he'd be a decent stopgap till Freddy is back

I think TML will hang on 2020 2nd with 1st gone, but if this is doable with 2021s i agree its not bad.

DeSmith showed he can handle big bois quite ok......sample is small, but he would come cheap as low risk......

oh buddy...you really are showing you don't know anything about DeSmith and the Pens goalie situation.

See Toronto's goalie situation is easy to understand. They have one good goalie and now he is hurt.

The Pens have 3 good goalies. But normally it is not wise to roster 3 goalies. add in cap complications from the start of the year and yes, that is why he is in the AHL.

Doesn't your fan base say kapanen is a top 6 player, but plays on the 3rd line because of their forward depth? Kind of like how DeSmith is only in the AHL because of pittsburghs goalie depth... Some leafs fans are so delusional

hmmm, what's the difference between a guy who has proven he is a 2nd liner playing on the 3rd line and a guy who has proven he might be a pretty good backup playing in the AHL?
Like, are you serious with that comparison? I mean, if Kapanen had played 50ish games and scored 12 goals on the 2nd line and then been put in the AHL it might work, but it's not remotely similar.
and the Leafs, if their starter is hurt, they shouldnt be putting their eggs all in one basket with a guy who might be nothing more than an average backup. Like, would you be comfortable going into the playoffs with DeSmith if Jary and Murray were hurt? I doubt it.

Whatever floats your boat hombre, you're the one who got puffy when i suggested that your 3rd string goalie playing in the AHL was your 3rd string goalie playing in the AHL and he's not a viable replacement for an actual NHL starter for a team looking to go deep into the playoffs. But hey, you do you.

You cant be serious lol. DeSmith has a .917 save % and 2.66 gaa in his NHL career. The only reason he is in the AHL is because Murray and Jarry are better. Just because DeSmith is in the AHL, doesn't mean he is a AHL player, just like how Kapanen isn't a 3rd line player because he plays on the 3rd line in Toronto. Stop being this stupid

There is nothing wrong with the trade itself value is fair trade helps out both teams. But does DeSmith get the W last night? Probably not, does DeSmith get the W in the 4 losses at the start of the season probably not

He has 50 NHL games spread out over 2 seasons as a backup. His numbers are fine, but he has proven nothing except that he is a good back up. I never said he was an AHL player, i said he has not proven that he is an NHL starter, This is very simple if you read what I wrote instead of projecting.

lmao you live in such a tiny toronto bubble. Watch more than your favorite team and you may pick up a thing or two. You didnt realize Desmith was a full time starter for portion of last year... And I can say the same thing about Kapanen. 38 career goals, 1 20 goal season, 29 points this season, etc. He is a good 3rd liner, but has proven he isn't a consistent top 6 forward. Maybe why he was a healthy scratch.....

Just remember that the guy you are arguing with is a leafs fan. So no matter what your players suck and his are good. Matthews > Crosby Tavares > Malkin. Kerroot > guentzel so logically desmith sucks bc he’s not on the leafs yet. Completely disregard his time in the nhl and forget that Pittsburgh has 2 current #1 goalies right now.

I find it hilarious how he claims Kapanen is a top 6 forward, but playing 3rd line because of the depth. But desmith isn’t a nhl goalie because he’s in the AHL but blocked by 2 better goalies. I love how that logic only applies to leaf players lmao
