No Choice but to Go All In

Description
Not sure what Bergevin can do other than go all in without selling off the team. Berg will lose his job if he doesn't assemble what could be a contender on paper.

If it doesn't work out he's got so many expiring UFAs next year that he could blow it up then. Might as well try something though.

You know the plan since 2018 is a reset, not selling prospect or high draft pick
You still dont get it ?

why would mcdonagh or johnson waive their full NTCs to go from a tampa team that will easily make the playoffs to a montreal team that is very clearly mortgaging the future? i can't imagine either of them going literally anywhere for any price.

I could see Bergy going all in next year. Its either bust or try and contend, mediocre won't cut it for much longer.

"Kucharovs"? Never heard of him. Assuming he's a D- prospect? Because if you're thinking of Nikita Kucherov, you've instantly become the funniest person on here (Not in a good way).

Bergevins job is safe. I can see some trouble if he misses the playoffs next season and none of the young guys has turned into a star, but for right now, the cup board is stocked with talent at every position, the team has some good key pieces and some veterans to sell off when the young guys step up, so he is safe and is in the start of the build.

You're right, I have no clue. You think fair value here is the Bolts to adding Nikita Kucherov, one of the best players in the NHL, in a deal that includes absolutely ZERO A level prospects, when they're already giving up a top pairing LHD, and a top 6 forward.

You're funny.

Assuming you are right "Berg will lose his job if he doesn't assemble what could be a contender on paper." then Molson knows this as well and won't let him just make a bunch of willy nilly trades to save his job.

A GM still has to explain himself and his reasoning to his boss. If we the fans can see the writing on the wall, so can he. I think MB is a capable "retool'er" so letting him try to correctly retool out of the Habs current situation is fine but if MB went into Molsons office and said "Geoff, we need to go all in! I suggest we trade our 1st rounder for Kreider and trade Caulfield for Barrie asap!", I'm pretty sure Molson would tell him no and that he no longer has confidence in him as GM. Essentially letting him step down as GM or he'll be fired.

If MB was allowed to go all in, he would have done it a while ago. The time for "all in" has now passed. It would be like LAK deciding to go all in now of all times.....it simply doesn't make sense.

MR ROGERS - "CAN YOU SAY 'OVERPAY' BOYS & GIRLS?"

Oh wait, i get it, this is like a reverse mortgage. You are rebuilding, but instead of trading for young blue chip prospects and high draft picks for your veterans, you are trading only decent players and a ton of picks for a 29 year old smaller size 3rd line C who will be paid until his mid-30's, and a 30 year old D man who is probably already starting to show is age and will also be paid until he is 36.
Very nice.

If your reading comprehension was better, you would understand my post was addressed to the AGM assessment of the transaction, not the team control or player control aspect, so just crawl back into your basement gaming chair and disappear in your XBox or NHL20.

If your reading comprehension was better you'd notice that your comment doesn't remotely address my concerns about the players' trade protection, which is 100% priority above any evaluation of the actual trade value. Maybe you should quote the people you actually want replying. Maybe you shouldn't pick a fight you don't want.
