Pittsburgh would do that in a second. Not sure why Anaheim would give up their only quality RHD for a guy that might be as good as he is someday AND take on Jack Johnson.

I don’t think that the penguins are shopping johnson anymore. He as been pretty solid for them this year. Plus johnson at 3,25 is pretty decent for what he bring to the game.

Take out Manson and ANA might consider it.

I know ducks have been bad the last two years but so has Manson. His value has dropped a lot. You’re no longer getting a nylander player in a manson trade

I don't think this is realistic for a lot of reasons.
First, it doesn't really fit a cap structure.
They got Letang and Marino in their top 2.
Where does Manson an RD fit in?
You can see Addison in a 3RD role growing and learning there where he can be sheltered.
But why would they put a 4 million defense man there?
That's a good 2-3 million to a high end forward that they need.

This doesn't make much sense for the Pens, they really don't need a RHD.

If this was built around Rakell it'd make sense for Pittsburgh.

JJ sucks and his contract is awful. $3.25M committed for 4 years. Pass. Addison is getting overhyped because he made the WJC team. He's no better than Josh Mahura, who is going to need some seriosu seasoning before he's a staple in the NHL. Addison is what you pay to dump JJ. Regardless of whether Manson has been bad, which I agree he has, why are we adding anything?

PIT don't have the assets to acquire Rakell.

Probably not, they really don't need RHD though.

That's ok, Manson shouldn't be in the deal anyway. It should be JJ (cap dump) + Addison (sweetner). You have to pay to dump bad contracts. Not gain assets in the process.

Oh I agree, I just didn't feel like typing a novel.. Lol

Its not enough for taking a cap dump and it doesn't fill a positional need for the Pens, doesn't make sense from multiple viewpoints.

I’m the biggest JJ hater and this year, to my surprise, he’s been decent. He’s been an okay bottom pairing D. Still overpaid, but it’s not gonna cost an asset as good as Addison to dump. Say what you want about Addison but he looked great in the world juniors. He’s a smaller, offensive puck moving D and I think he’s got a shot at being a very good pro if he develops right. I could see him developing into a 40-50 point 2nd pairing RHD

Possibly. His salary isn't that bad, it's the term that I don't like, especially given how many young D-man we have that will need those bottom pairing minutes. As far as Addison, I think that kind of production is incredibly optimistic. I mean, 50 pts is Schultz's best season and he came into the league with far better credentials than Addison and he struggled defensively early on and for a number of years. By all accounts, Addison is your standard overachieving D-man. I could see him ending up very similar to Montour. A top 4, 30 pt guy who is below average-to-average defensively. A good skater, but weak on the puck.

P.S. I'm not being biased. I very much expect the same from Josh Mahura. Sure! one of them could continue to overachieve at the NHL level, but I wouldn't make that my default position.
