Kapanen with his contract and age is worth more than Petry as a rental.
Paying a 2nd round pick to dump Ceci's contract for 2 months is a really dumb idea

Petry has another year on his contract after this season.

These trades are also for a win now mode, which i think a 2nd is worth dumping Ceci to get petry to fit for the next 2 playoff pushes

I also don't like this. Too much for a marginal upgrade. I don't think Petry is going to push us that much more ahead. He's better than Ceci but you can probably make a better move that doesn't cost you Kapanen

Petry would instantly become our best RHD and it really isn't even close. (Sorry Tyson Barrie).

Rielly / Petry
Muzzin / Holl
Dermott / Barrie

Sandin / Liljegren

That is a D core that I can get behind for sure.

Petry is a bonifide #3 dman, and would instantly become our best all around RHD.

Sure you could package Kapanen for someone younger and more controlled but you will have to add more to get him, plus who are the options ATM? Subban? not touching that. Vatanen? too many OFD. Tanev? one dimensional and a bandaid plus VAN is probably trying to make a push of their own and if you say Pieterangelo then your kinda off your rocker.

Id be more then willing to give up Kapanen and a late 2nd for a year and a half of Petry and hopefully make two deep runs, Kapanens just going to rot away on the 3rd line, plays too much run and gun for the liking of Tavares and Matthews.

Petry is a better RHD than ANYTHING that we currently have in the organization and that really isn't even debatable.

If im not mistaken he has 3 straight 40 point seasons and is on track for another one on a dumpster fire habs team. I know for a fact hes a solid defender and smooth skater who also has a good shot from the point giving us another PP option for PP2.

Not to mention he is a stop gap next year for Liljegren, and a veteran presence.

Career minus 115 player. He's really nothing special. I know plus/minus isn't a great stat but let's maybe look into this more and then think about how smart sending a good young forward for a 32 year old who isn't a top pair defenceman on most teams.

Career minus 115. He's been a plus player twice in his career. He is not great defensively, he's old, and he wouldn't get any PP time here.

He played two years for the oil during there tire fire years and that makes up -50 in those two years, subtract them and hes around -60, in the same boat as Barrie and Rielly

Your views are so incredibly shortsighted because of those Leaf Goggles that you wear. It is difficult to try and talk logically about improving the team with someone so obtuse as yourself. One more for the ignore list.

Take out the first 4 years of Rielly's career where he was an terrible Leaf teams and he's a positive player. Petry had a minus 30 season the year before last. Barrie has half his minus for the year he was on the historical bad Avalanche. Petry has been negative every year but twice.

You are bringing in a good puck moving player who gets scored on a lot more than his team scores. For a team that has offensive defenceman in Rielly and Barrie, Petry doesn't get near the opportunity that he gets now. He isn't as good defensively as Muzzin or Holl so he'd be likely asked to be on the 3rd pair where he'd be a big upgrade over Ceci but that isn't worth Kapanen. Petry is more valuable to a tonne of other teams.

You literally just called a guy short sighted for not wanting to trade a 23 year old for a 32 year old. Logically speaking, Perry's best days are behind him in all likelihood, he may still be a good player but for how long? Also when are Kap's best days coming? Short sighted. I don't think you understand what that means.

PleaseBanMeForMyOwnGood thinks that every member of the Toronto Maple Leafs organization is more valuable than any other player in the NHL. He repeatedly denies to look at anything that involves the possibility of improving the team. He Poo-Poo's every trade suggestion and fabricates an analysis to support his position. I think he just does it for attention to be honest. It is absolutely pointless to try and debate logic with someone who is solely here to disagree for the sake of disagreeing. I recommend just hitting the ignore button. It really isn't worth the interaction.

No I just think assets need to be managed and giving up a players best years (Kap) for a guy who's 9 years older and really doesn't push the needle much is a waste of assets. You like to paint me as a homer that overvalues everything, when I am just frugal. Kapanen is a good player and after him, we are thin on RW. Petry is not the guy I'd target. I don't think he's the right guy. Montreal may indeed get equivalent value as this proposed trade but not from Dubas. He gave up less than this to get Muzzin who is better and is younger.

You like so many others, just gets mad when others don't agree with you. Grow up.b

Ok who would you target then? I agree we need another Muzzin type D but on the right, but who are the options? Hamonic, but hes a playoff rental unless you sign him for Ceci money. Manson? But then the ducks have literally nothing on their right side so i doubt that gets done.

The only other logical solution thats still only 50/50 is going after Savard in CBJ.

Do you do Kapanen + Bracco + Ceci + and 2nd for Savard and Anderson?

IF that were on the table... I would do it in a heartbeat. A move like that makes the Leafs a better team now and moving forward.

Sure, Petry is an improvement over Ceci and Petry has an additional year. But you've traded four Leaf forwards and got just two in return and hardly stars in return. So overall Leafs probably aren't better this year or even next year
