Like Hamilton has been good, but how on earth is he worth the same AAV as McDavid?

Agreed. The Josi extension (IMO) is a good start.

Shorter term, higher AAV. It's a contract written to avoid the decline phase of 8 year contracts.

By avoiding the 8 year term length, I upped the AAV to McDavid cash, essentially hammering through money that he would get in 8 years into a shorter-term deal. It's an aggressive contract that avoids slotting a 36-year old Dougie in for $9M in cap space.

He'll be what, 28 when he signs? I wouldn't be terrified about having a 36 year old Hamilton. Just structure it with the majority of the money up front and you'll be safe.

Dougie Hamilton has a good month and all of a sudden he’s the highest paid player in the league. Yikes. He’s so soft it’s insane.

I think these deals will be quite easy. Svechnikov will get an identical contract to what Aho got and Hamilton will get offered something between OEL and Josi, so many like $8.95 million over a long term deal. Hamilton will for sure be the harder signing because when he is up for a new deal, he will be UFA eligible. I think what Torey Krug gets next will have a huge bearing on what Hamilton gets.

I just wanted to edit in and add that there is no way Hamilton will get $12.5 million on a next contract. There is no justification that he deserves more to what recent Norris trophy winners have gotten in terms of contract.

My post was an experiment more than an actual realistic scenario. I have been talking about potential contracts in HFBoards where the team discount is in years rather than average annual value. In exchange for fewer years, players would get huge annual salaries.

Hamilton the highest paid Dman in the league? Svech making more than Aho? Is Dubas the new GM in Carolina? There is be a going rate for RFA. Svech. I know UFAs and their pay structure should be different, but what competition is Carolina going to have for Hamilton at even 10m?

Svech is not Aho, he is better...Way better and is proving it in his second year I think that he will get 11m with the increased cap, and basing Dougie's number off of what @Hockyluv21 has been saying it would be about the same 11m maybe 10.5m Dougie isn't worth 60/8 so I would take it down a bit and do 52.5/8 or 10.5/5

Those are disgusting contracts. Hamilton is worth 8m long term at the most. Canes could probably bridge Svech, but they have the money either way.
