That’s the issue with LTIR, it’s not free cap space. If we dip into LTIR, we won’t be able to accrue cap space for the deadline.

You do realize Laine is a 22 year old RFA, right? That’s 3 years of team control remaining, 2 after his current deal expires. Danault on the other hand is a 1 year rental.

Assuming he’s worked on his skating and strength, (based upon everything I’ve read he definitely has) he’s getting at least 9 games. However I think he’s a player whose development we cannot mess up, and giving him 1 more year in junior would definitely be better than sticking him on the 4th.

I mean he’s being paired up with a right handed partner and has been listed on the left side in the lineup sheets all of preseason and the regular season, so I’m pretty sure he’s playing on the left. He may have been playing on the right late last season but not right now.

I think they’re both capable of playing in the NHL but more development time would benefit them both. Samberg is defensively and physically ready, but needs to work on his offense a bit. Heinola obviously is the opposite, offense and puck moving skills are more than ready, but needs to bulk up a bit and improve his defense.

Also Heinola has been playing 1LHD in Finland so he’s on his normal side.

Heinola and Perfetti should both be ready by 21-22. I also wouldn’t give a 36 year old Stastny a 2 year deal, only 1 if he performs well this season.

Yeah I think this is pretty much how it’s gonna sort out unless we trade for a stop gap 2LHD. It’ll also be interesting to see how the bottom-six shakes out, Maurice might be inclined to go Copp-Lowry-Roslovic and then the other 3 on the 4th with Harkins at centre. Would prefer HRA and CLP though like it is here.

Also PP setup, I think we go back to Stastny in Connor’s position down low. He would win more faceoffs than Scheifele and honestly just fits better there than Connor. I think a Ehlers/Connor PP2 unit could be a great follow up.

Sujet: My personal list of untouchable players

I think there’s kinda 2 tiers to this. 1st tier: Scheifele-Morrissey-Hellebuyck. 1C, 1D, Vezina goalie. If any one of them goes down for any stretch of time, the entire team is absolutely screwed. 2nd tier: Laine, Ehlers, Connor, Wheeler. Besides Scheifele, the entirety of our offense comes from those 4 wingers. We could theoretically trade one of them for a defenseman, but our offense would suffer massively. That’s the core, every other player or prospect is not untouchable (and I love Heinola and Samberg)

I think Chevy will attempt to pull off a trade that only involves futures. Every future asset minus Heinola and Samberg should be on the table for a 2C. If some combination of the ‘21 first, Roslovic, Vesalainen + other prospects can net us a centre from a team with cap issues (TB, Yotes, Chicago), Chevy should be all over that.

I think the defense will be passable through UFA additions such as DeMelo and Dillon/Edmundson. Samberg should start on the 3rd pairing. Like it won’t be anything spectacular, it just has to be not horrific like this past season.

Positionally yes, but in a vacuum Byram has more value than Newhook so there would need to be an even bigger add. Winnipeg isn’t exactly in a position to trade established players for prospects right now.
