Ironically, the one GM in this league that can probably get these negotiations straightened asap is Lou. Shame that he wasn't extended by Toronto. Anyway, I expect if the Leafs were trade Marner, which is a huge IF, they would looking for D. So Dobson and a 1st is a great start, but it would probably also take Pulock and probably Mayfield.

Well, you know the ask will huge. The only way I see Marner ever leaving via trade is if some team is going to pony-up big time.

Umm, one of the reasons we are in this mess is because Lou wouldn't give b bonuses. Lou has consistently overpaid players he signs and overtermed them at that. What the **** are you talking about?!?

Marners trade value drops significantly if he does not sign a contract as a part of the trade - Also, if he wants 11.5 x 4 or 5 years, teams will not want to give up multiple valuable assets for him. Opportunity cost matters.

I actually do not mind this trade for the leafs. May need a little tweaking here and there. Leafs get a solid replacement for Marner while improving our prospect pool for the future. The savings between Marner and Bailey + Ceci 4 mil will allow the Leafs to resign Barrie for 2020-21 onward and also resign Muzzin. (hoping Muzzin and Bailey have great chemistry together) Then we have Lilijgren and Dobson fighting for the other top 4 RD in 2020-21. With Sandin also in the mix for 2020-21 Dermot may end up being the odd man out.

LOL I hope you're kidding. I get Mitch's return would be a lot but Dobson is going to be a top 4 RHD in 2 years. He's and A+ prospect. I think Pulock, 2020 1st, and Bailey is fair. Although with Pulock he's gonna get a significant raise. Theres not a chance you get Pulock and Dobson. its one or th other. Pulock is a top pairing RHD, Dobson is an A+ prospect that will be a 2nd pairing RHD in 2 years and even a top pairing guy in 2-3.

Yeah, one of their camps main concerns was the 'disrespect' of not getting b bonuses, which that offer would have 'corrected'.

That is still a huge overpay but to say Lou would have made everything alright is revisionist at best and outright false at worst. Which is what I was responding to.
