Not sure Svechnikov is better then Laine...that seems a bit of reach no?

Svechnikov produces at a higher 5v5 per 60 rate in both goals and points and is already a much more complete player.

I agree he's a more complete player as Laine is a pure scorer, but Laine had a down year and that happens when these kids are young.

Laine's first year = 36g, 64p over 73 games
Svechnikov = 20g, 38p over 82 games

Laine last year = 30g, 50p over 82 games

It's not even close in who produces more. That said, Svechnikov is indeed more then a scorer, but he's got more to prove before you say he's worth more then Laine because fighting Ovy didn't do it!

Not a chance Canes make this deal. It's not so much about who is better, at least currently, it is more about value. Both Svechnikov and Pesce are beloved teammates, and Pesce, specifically, who has been there a lot longer. Now, while Laine is currently the best offensive player in this deal, Svechnikov is not far beyond and some, including myself, would make the argument that he will eventually surpass Laine with overall game, even if he is not as pure a goal scorer as Laine currently is. That is why, like I said, the Canes would not make this deal.

At this point, it would probably be best for everyone, at least Laine and the Jets, if they could work out a bridge deal, which I believe is on the table. Let Laine try to up his value, since currently, his value sits at the lowest it's probably ever been since he was a draft prospect.

Not an unfair deal, but Carolina loses out due to svechnikov having 2 more ELC years and laine wanting a ton of money

5v5 production? Based on 1 year?
Why are you pulling out 1 statistical subset and basing an entire thesis on Svechnikov is better because he produces better at 5v5? with only 1 season of data?
Lane is more experienced (3 years vs. 1 for Svech), and the overall numbers don't lie...Laine outproduces Svechniko in totality...goals, assists, and total points.
Why not go a step further, Laine also averages higher # shots per game (230 vs. 189), higher shooting % (15.9 to 10.6), and FO % (28.9 to 14.3).

Based on the overall numbers, Laine is the better asset in this trade.

Svech > Laine
