Marner at 6M Gardiner at 55M

Description
People act like 6M is pennies.

Gaudreau got 9.25% on a 6 year deal and Draisaitl got 11.33% on an 8 year deal. That works out to between 7.5M and 9.2M. Those are fair comparables and salary numbers on deals with term...which Marner doesn't want.

There is your bridge bud. Take it or leave it.

He'll definitely leave it and look to sign an offer sheet if you think that is legit. A guy does not do a "show me" deal when he has already scored 94 points. So if it is short term, it will not be at much of a discount.

Also, you are looking at Drai and Gaudreau in hindsight. Drai had come off a 77 point regular season, Gaudreau had come off a 78 point regular season. Not comparable to 94 points.

Meier just signed a very friendly 6m per over 4 years deal and had 66 points...so yeah try using that as a comparable in negotiations...

Nylander got $6.9M for 5 years, with point productions of 61, 61, and 41 (27 pts. in 54 games equates to .5 a game, or an equivalent production of 41 points in 82 games).
The $6M value above is a joke.
He will definitely sign an offer sheet at $10M for 5 years rather than $6M for 3 years. Someone will pay that,

Signing an offer sheet for 10 million over five years would make the Marner camp look stupid after what they have been rumoured to be asking for. That will not happen. I wish it did because the Leafs would match that in a heartbeat. If there is an offer sheet, (highly unlikely at this point), it will be for over the max compensation mark.

I love hearing fans talk like they have any clue how negotiations work in this era of hockey. Its not 1986 anymore, you don't walk into a room with a bunch of white haired suits and push a piece of paper across the table and say, "Here's our offer, take it or leave it."

You guys are all just silly, both sides of this arguement, its nonsense. Marner just like the rest of the high profile RFA's are just waiting for someone to blink, whether it be a GM or a player someone is going to blink and when that happens, the market will be set and all this will sort itself out. Forget the past, who cares about what other people signed for, all that matters is one of the people involved in this. (Dubas, Marner, Point, Tampa's GM, Sakic, Rantanen, Calgary, Tkachuk, etc) Someone is going to blink and set the market, and when that happens the rest will follow.

If that seems like a reasonable assumption, its because it is. Its the only explanation to the current no news situation we are in. Its a waiting game and there are many people involved and it won't likely move until August sometime. There are zero issues with that and I for one am just going to relax and enjoy the summer, getting stressed about Marner wanting more money according to dummies who need to attract click bait to sell adds is not how I want to spend my time.

The one thing everyone overlooks when they talk about points, is the team around the player. Gaudreau, for instance, when he scored 78 points, was 15 points above his centre and the next highest scorer on the team. And that was years ago when point per game seasons weren't nearly as common. The year prior Tavares finished second in league scoring with 86 points. The game has changed and point inflation has to be considered just like salary cap inflation.

Guys that want short term deals are banking on themselves to produce more and to prove that one good season wasn't a fluke. Show me happens all the time.

Everyone has this idea that he'll just run out and sign an offer sheet of he doesn't get what he wants from the Leafs. Well where is it?

A little hometown discount. It should be 7 years at that cap hit but I kept Ceci in there for fun.

Nylander got 6 years at 7.5M but the late signing changed the cap hit making it larger in year one and smaller in the remaining 5 years.
He signed the deal after posting back to back 61 point seasons which over the same period of time, Marner scored only 8 more points. Enter Tavares and the entire team inflates their totals.

At some point you're going to have to come down off of that high horse because with each long winded rant , you prove your ignorance more and more.

Hey Logan, someone did Blink. Sebastian Aho. He signed an offer sheet and agree'd he is worth 8.5/5years.

Aho- same age as marner, center, scores more goals, better defensively, you can argue a better player but at the very least they are neck and neck.

In this league Goals and Centers get the most money, then RHD. Aho does both better. So in reality regardless of if Marner is better the comparable has been set. MArner SHOULD be worth less than Aho from those 2 things alone.

I think Marners Agent and Dad are toxic and giving Mitch bad advise. This will get settled in training camp I would assume because
1. Marner see's how missing it affected Nylander. You dont want that hate if you put up that performance after a huge deal
2. Dubas I think will start leaking trade rumors and cause marner to panic and sign a FAIR deal. Not a deal Dubas robs him blind, just a FAIR deal that matches his performance and comparables.
