Just wondering the price, doesn’t need to be specific if you don’t Want to put up a particular trade. Is Burtuzzo too much of a “part of the family” for it to be worth while for the leafs?

So first the leafs trade for jarry and flip him? Has to be something more simple than that...

Probably a 3rd, maybe less. He’s a replacement level 3rd pair guy who can be really good when paired with a puck mover like Dunn or Dermott. The Blues could trade him if Mitch Reinke is ready.

Hmm good to know, on the leafs I would pair him with Rielly. He wouldn’t see all the minutes and wouldn’t be up against top lines. In a pinch like the leafs are in where our left side is so much stronger than the right a player like Burtuzzo could play a bigger role.

In the second and third year of his contract he could gradually get bumped down the lineup to play with Dermott and then sandin.

You think Burtuzzo really upgrades the Leafs D?
This player never came my mind as such...maybe I just didn't see it.

He’s big physical stay at home and cheap... think that checks some boxes. I like his play. Dubas may not. He likes the small mobile puck moving Dmen.

At this point one of our Prospects Reinke looks like he could take his spot here soon, so I would part with him for a 3rd Round Pick Probably.

Well Bortuzzo is known for his physical play which is something that Toronto has been needing for awhile in their defense, and Bortuzzo, well, plays tremendous defense. Bortuzzo is a bit of an underrated guy, but don't let him playing on the 3rd Line fool you. Only reason he is playing 3rd line is because he has Parayko, and PIetrangelo in front of him. So putting him in a Top 4 role in Toronto would only improve the defense. I would hate to let him go, but it might be time.

I disagree with the premise he'd be playing anything more than 3rd line defender on another team. He is your classic defensive d-man with limited puck mobility but will chip in here and there when he needs to.
I do agree though that he's really only worth a 3rd rounder coming back. Can't see much more value than that.

In Toronto he would be your normal Top 4 Guy knowing they have no real good Defenseman.

He's still not a top 4. They'd be better off having Liljegren in a top 4 role and Borts in a bottom pair role

Not if they are looking at Defense, Sure for Offense, but this whole thing by Toronto has been Defense. Liljegren is offensive which doesn't help your defense. You could pair Bortuzzo up with Reilly and you have Bortuzzo the good defensive minded guy who wouldn't need to play a lot of Offense because Reilly the Offensive guy. Defense is an underrated Skill nowadays.

Agreed that he might get a little over-exposed as a true second pairing, but he's also a tad better than a typical third pairing. If they want offense, sure, Lily is probably the guy. If they want shut down defense, Borts isn't that guy, but he's pretty darn good. He's perfect for the Note as third pair RHD, which is likely why Army extended him. Due to that, I doubt they move him unless totally blown away with an offer @Jamiepo . On top of that, Army probably wants him as a guy he won't have to protect during the Seattle draft. That's another reason they probably don't move him.

That was my thinking. Rielly diesn’t play against top lines for the most part. I think Bortuzzo could be that fill in guy we move up and down the lineup as prospects are ready. Just a thought.

I don't underestimate defense. But Borts is not a top line defenseman you can pair with Rielly. Keep in mind as good as Borts is at shot blocking, he'd be going up against top lines every night. He's good defensively, but not that good.

I could agree he's better than the average 6th defenseman. But he definitely should not be playing top 4 minutes even in a defensive role. I agree, he's the perfect Blue for that reason. He doesn't have to be a top 4 guy. He's the classic role defensemen kimd of like Ken Daneyko.
