Description
All I really want is Pulock so that pick is negotiable. I think Pulock is an average if slightly underwhelming second-third pairing guy, but I think it would be possible to get him signed longterm in Winnipeg for his hometown team. What are islanders' fans thoughts on that trade?

For Pittsburgh you get Johnson off your chests and an excellent but aging middle 6 left winger for two years at the cost of about 2M more than you save. Thoughts?

1 for 1? Trouba is objectively the better dman. Pulock's contract makes him pretty valuable on the flip side, but NYI has significantly more cap next year to spend.

    lol, wut

Trouba leads Pulock in CF%, CA/60, plays more min/game in every year prior to this one, and does it all playing exclusively against the other team's best line. There is absolutely zero argument to say that Trouba isn't better.

Trouba's got a whopping 4 points more then Pulock and the Jets PP has been utter garbage since he was put on the 1st PP unit, you and so many other Jets fans seriously overrate Trouba. If the Jets could get Pulock in a one for one deal for Trouba they should take it and run but it's more likely the Jets would have to add not the Islanders.

If we're comparing defense by how they play on the power play, we're doing it wrong. A team only needs two-three defensemen to have a good power play and account for injury. I 100% agree Trouba is not a PP quarterback. Myers and Niku would both be better. That does not mean that Myers, and Niku are 1st line defensemen. Trouba eats up even strength and penalty kill minutes like french bread, lowers the chances against per 60 of every partner he has played with, including the geriatric corpse of Mark Stuart, and has trended upward every year for the last three in offensive rates.

There's definitely an argument for the Islanders not wanting to trade Pulock, but that is completely to do with his contract.

Lou is in charge on the island, frugal, likes his own prospects and draftpicks, the difference between trouba and pulock is not going to make a deal, just on contract and especially if they cost picks too, I’m glad morrisey was the pick over pulock in the draft, not saying pulock wouldn’t be a bad free agent to possibly bring home later.

Pens say hell no. Replacing one cap dump for pretty much another one while retaining on JJ and giving up picks and our best prospect would be insane. We are essentially paying over 5 mil for the next couple years for Perreault. Thanks but no thanks. Plus JJ looks like he fits with Schultz. Has been playing some of the best hockey of his career since being paired with Schultz.

I think you're very much underestimating Perreault if you think he's a cap dump. He's definitely aging and that reflects in his health, but his rates and on-ice stat line is pretty indistinguishable from the Nuge, and they haven't really been slowing down. If we took their statlines from the last three years, blocked their names out and divided them by ice-time you probably wouldn't be able to distinguish the two from each other. Perreault is absolutely worth a shot in someone's top 6 and if he sticks there he is signed at an excellent price.

That being said, you make a lot of sense. Hallander is stupidly underrated considering how much other prospects get hyped, so I'll admit I was definitely trying to be clever and hoping fans wouldn't realize how nice his play in the SHL is.

You might be right that he wouldn’t be a cap dump if he were to slot in the top 6, however, he wouldn’t do that with the pens. Especially with McCann looking like an absolute gem on the Crosby line. And ZAR has inserted himself as a mainstay on the second line with Geno and Phil. Had this trade been offered like a month or 2 ago, I’d probably say it was a good trade from the pens standpoint. Even their 3rd line is solidified with Rust and Horny being centered by Bjugstad. So we’d essentially be paying 5+ mil for a player slotting into our fourth line with a possibility to jump to third line. We are too cap strapped for that lol

It's trade value. Trouba is has only one year till he's UFA, Pulock is 5 years. Plus Trouba is about 4m more in 2019/20. For a guy who includes "math" as part of his ID, you've failed badly.

Again lol wut. Pulock is a UFA at 27. He’s 24 right now. He has a late birthday so there’s that, but by the time this trade would happen it’s three years of Pulock for 1 year of Trouba.

Cap’s a valid argument but considering NYI could afford to extend him, he’s worth every penny. If I’m Islanders and I thought there was a serious chance of getting to a SC next year, I’m making that trade every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
