Description
BEFORE all you leafs fans jump on me about how Marleau cannot be moved due to his NMC, and how "his contract is set up to prevent exactly this from happening" yada yada.. This, in my view, is the only way Dubas can follow through on what he said about not trading Nylander and be able to sign Marner to what he will get on an extended deal. No two ways about it, unless he's willing to deal Johnsson and Kapanen away to keep Marleau around for the ONE year remaining on his deal, it just doesn't make sense to me. So I think he has to and will find a way to convince Marleau to waive his clause, no matter how difficult that may be, 'cause it's the only way to keep the band together, at least in my opinion.

No matter what he won't. Marleau has the best chance at a cup on Toronto therefore he is going to want to stay on Toronto.

Well I think this is just one potential way that it could play out, I don't think it's impossible.

Somehow you've convinced yourself that Marleau's written NMC means nothing, but a silly press conference promise has meaning. As indicated by other above, Marleau isn't moving if he remains playing. The other reason is other teams don't want his 6.25m cap hit. Now a retired Marleau makes his cap hit an easy trade to a team with cap space.

Even if Marleau decided to wiace his NMC Toronto would have to send more then a 4th wkth him to get a team to take his contract. Its 6.25 million that no team will take on for free

No doubt they'll have to get creative but Marleau was brought in for a reason and with 4 points in his last 5 games playing with Matthews, moving him is a last resort.

Zaitsev or Brown or Hyman or Kadri or a combo of these players gets moved, not Marleau.

I haven't convinced myself of anything of the sort, I clearly said in the description that this is the only way he CAN deliver on that promise and keep his core together considering the payday Marner will inevitably get. You guys are the ones who've convinced yourself that you know 100% without doubt that Marleau won't waive his NMC come hell or high water, as if it's as certain as death and taxes. All I'm saying is that it's a possibility that Dubas surely will look to explore.

If a player is traded, then he's not part of the core is he? I've convinced myself that Marleau is not going to traded to a non contender. And I really doubt if he would want to uproot his family again for one more season to anywhere but San Jose. And contenders don't have cap space or the desire to acquire a 6.25m non performer.

"Marleau isn't moving if he remains playing." What'd I say? IT had to be done, and it was. This is a lesson for y'all who kept saying it'll NEVER happen, not everything is black and white, there's other factors that can be at play. Next time keep an open mind instead of thinking you know everything.

Don't be a d*ck.

It was well documented that the deal breaker for Marleau choosing Toronto over re-signing in San Jose was the 3rd year of the contract. Everything over the past 2 years (including his goodbye tweet) shows how much he enjoyed it here. Him asking to get traded came out of left field. It's great that he wanted to leave...but there was't any indication he was willing to move his family to Toronto and then bail after 2 years.

None of the scenarios of trading Marleau on this board EVER made sense unless Marleau was willing to waive his NTC...something that didn't seem reasonable to assume until a couple weeks ago.

You can step off your high horse now.

don't be salty. Only immature one, is 1 who thinks he has the right to be a d*ck because he was right for the first time in his life. maybe that's why you only have 68 likes because no one really cares what you have to say cuz you are a d*ck. Sure I take the L, I'm not an analyst. But you have to take the L because you said NEW YORK ISLANDERS. So um good luck their bud. Nice knowing you but you are going on my d*ckweed list or the ignore list.

The only thing that matters here is that he was traded, and when I looked at the cap situation I predicted that this was the only way about 6 months ago, so it doesn't matter how out of left field the trade was, every leaf fans shat on that idea whenever I even began to mention it. So yeah, when it finally happened I definitely wanted to rub it in a bit to people like this guy who ridiculed me for even suggesting it, so sue me.

sure bud...the only way was to hope that Marleau would request a trade out or retire and have his contract traded. Simply saying they needed to trade him without acknolwledging his NTC and the likelihood of him waiving it is far from an accurate prediction. This wasn't Dubas convincing him to waive it as your original post suggested...

You are actually an idiot, how do you even dress yourself in the morning? Obviously Dubas convinced him to waive because that was the ONLY WAY to keep Nylander and co around with Marner's impending contract, instead of keeping 1 year of Marleau at 6.25. That's why I predicted it, but you're clearly not comprehending that. Why would Marleau request a trade out of this situation? Clearly he liked it in Toronto and just did the leafs a favour by waiving. Hopefully not all leaf fans are meatheads like you.

How does Dubas like his coffee? Do me a favour and say hi to him for me next time you see him. Shut your yip, kid. No one is buying your B.S.
