Description
Lucic: kept for all of next season until the 2020 expansion draft for Seattle where he then gets shipped off with picks or traded for Backes, a valued penalty killer and faceoff guy

Sekera: If all goes wrong with Sekera coming off of injury reserve, the Oilers are forced into a contingency plan of selling with high picks

I’ve fixed the top 9, what goes on with the D?

Now that I was kinda skeptical about, probably does, but hey ??‍♂️ doesn’t hurt to try. Likely Looch is shipped off at expansion draft

Right or wrong, the Oilers are probably on most players NTCs. Average to poor team. Worse travel schedule in the league I believe. About the worse weather. Especially for Americans (like Backes), it's a no thank you.

Yes, Toffoli is worth a 2nd and a B prospect if traded this season. If he's traded next season, his value will decline because he'll be a rental.

If you'd like to offer a 2nd and Bear or Marody, the Kings might be interested. However, Rieder is an expensive bust (the Kings already had him and chose not to qualify), and Safin isn't even a top 10 prospect for the Oilers. The Kings would be better off holding onto Toffoli through the rebuild rather than acquiring any/all of those pieces.

The Gagner-Spooner swap is a lot of nothing that doesn't need to happen. Both are likely to finish their careers out in the AHL, keep the 50k in savings and have Katz buy himself a nice hat.

Only thing I could suggest for the defence is to try and get Kulikov and/or Zaitsev for free next offseason or run with Ethan Bear. There's no easy fix to this team.

Without the Lucic trade there’s a big hole at 3rd line Center, Khaira could fill it temporarily with good wingers, but realistically he’s not A 3C you dive into the playoffs with. We need a right 3C, that can win faceoff’s and play efficient hockey on either the PP or PK or both. Then on RHD I’m very confident one of Persson, Bouchard, Bear or the underrated Berglund will swoop in to claim a top 4 spot next season.

Marody could work in a pinch; it's not like he's a teenager. I'd love to see him dummy the AHL for another year, but if push comes to shove, limited minutes with Khaira on his wing would suffice.

That is an interesting idea, but what do you suppose happens with Manning

Next year will be Backes last in Boston one way or the other. Either they are able to move him to a team he is willing to go to or they buy him out at the end of next year.

Your best chance with Looch is either eat half and trade him for another bad contract like Alzner and they eat half there. Wait til the Seattle expansion draft and hope he waives for a deal with them. Or he gets hit by a bus...i know a guy.

Bury him, take the $1M in savings. There isn't a team in the league that'll pay for him. Then he's done with after next season, whereas buying him out draws the cost over the next two seasons.

Of all the dead weight contracts in the league Lucic's is far and away the worst. At least all the other guys with bad contracts can at least fill some kind of role even if they're overpaid to do it, Lucic just doesn't bring anything at this point.

If he centered a 4th line, put up 20 points a year and killed penalties in a shutdown role it'd at least be something for $6 million but man oh man, what he brings isn't worth a league minimum contract.. Lol

It is, SO buyout proof. And I can only fathom the assets he'd cost to trade, seem very stuck with him.

Can’t bury him. He has an NMC. Can’t be placed on waivers or sent to minors.

The caps (or any other NHL team for that matter) would never give anything close to that for Chiasson, regardless of his goals this year.
