Problem is 5x7.5 and I think the Leafs would probably have signed him by now if he would agree to that.

One of the worst deals I've seen involving Free Willy. Justin Faulk with tres available this summer. The Canes failure to pull the trigger on a deal this offseason says that no one in the league valued Faulk the way the Canes do. I understand there are additional pieces here, but the Leafs need that top young controllable defenseman who can play strong defense. This deal doesn't really address that, and the Leafs don't need more forwards.

I don't like any piece of this proposed deal, but how do you propose the Leafs get a young top D?
Now that we are drafting late, it's going to take 10 years for the Leafs to draft another Rielly or Kaberle, probably longer for a defensive D because the scouting staff don't even know what that looks like.

Manson might be obtainable in Anaheim, but it would, at minimum require the Leafs to somehow offer the Ducks some cap relief. I believe the Leafs could do Nylander 1-for-1 with the Blues for Parayko, though I know there are a lot of doubters out there. With the start to the year they are having, the Leafs might be able to get creative with Edmonton and acquire a bunch of different, including Evan Bouchard, a young RH D, might that would most likely require the Leafs to take back some salary. The Leafs could target Colin Miller (plus plus, obviously) in Vegas, though with Schmidt out with a suspension, they'd likely need an additional piece to fill spots.

There are pieces out there. The problem is, it's still a young season and teams have plenty of time to turn things around internally before they start making mad trades. Saturday's game against Washington will really be the Leafs first true test of the year (though they lost a stinker in Ottawa already), and will definitely show whether or not the Leafs have significant holes and how big those holes are. There is nothing like battling the reign the Stanley Cup champs to measure the current state of your own team.

This right here is the difference between a good organization and a bad one.

The Penguins have been picking up talented players off the streets. They picked up a solid 2D line defense man in Riikola.
They Pulled Calen Addison out of the 2nd round of the draft.
They Picked up ZAR from college free agent.

If the only way your team has of collecting talent is the draft you frankly don't deserve to win.

Fact is last year they could have made a run a Daniel Brickley, they didn't. A mistake by most teams. He could have been a soild bottom 4 guy for you.
There is talent out there, you simply aren't looking for it.

    Every Canes fan on here.

"You are trading anyone for one of our prized defenceman? Canes are overpaying. We hang up the phone."

    The non Canes fan.

"Uh I didn't even offer anything yet, but I was going to give you an elite offensive player that provides more offense than anyone on your roster currently (there are stats to support that statment in regards to Nylander, not saying he's your best player, he'd be right there with Aho though) for Faulk who is your 3rd best RHD who is also older than Nylanders."

    Canes fans

"overpayment, all our defenceman are worth your best player and 17 first round picks."

    You guys are silly.
