WHY IS $10,000,000 IN CAP SPACE CONSIDERED CAP TROUBLE?

Créé par: drewjenks

Description
.

The defense is no good....I'll agree....that's what the $10,000,000 in cap space is for.

How about signing Myers, Ellis or Stralman....then trading Carrick and some extra picks for a guy like Pesce or Parayko.

And all of a sudden....the defense looks amazing:

Rielly - Parayko
Dermott - Myers
Borgman - Holl
Rosen - Ozhiganov
Sandin - Liljegren
Gordeev - Durzi
Nielsen - Rasanen

FINAL NOTE: Matthews, Marner and Nylander will likely sign for less than what I have listed....probably around $2,000,000 less in total.

True....I forgot that no one would allow Gardiner, Hyman, Zaitsev and Hainsey on their team.....I guess were just stuck with them all year.

Does that mean I can re-sign all of them for $650,000 next season? Should I update my team with that?

Gardiner and Hainsey contracts expire in 2019-2020. Zaitsev would be the hardest to get rid of. Perhaps retaining 500k and trading to Lou on the island.

If he has another year like this one than you're right.

But if he plays like he did in his first year....his contract will actually be a bargain and he'll net a good return.

I think it’s funny how you feel Carrick and a couple extra picks can pull Parayko. Jeremy rutherford already said this won’t happen. You have to give up one of the top 4 for him. Same with Carolina.

Here is where it isn’t 10M. An Upgrade D won’t only be 1M. All of the players you are naming aren’t just 800K. It’s more like 3M

You don't have 10 mill in space because there is zero chance that the salary cap is jumping to 85mill next season. You're ~4mill over that projection provided all goes well this season. So to upgrade on D you're already blowing that cap. Even if you could land a Parayko or Pesce (at the pieces your trading, that's a 0% chance of happening) you think thats enough to overcome the rest of the crap behind your top 3 (Reilly/your fantasy/Dermott)?

Seems highly unlikely that the Leafs are going to throw away this season by trading away Hainsey, Zaitsev, Hyman and Zaitsev. for futures. Can't see many of those RFA signings signing for less than what they are making now. If they are NHL good, they could walk as UFAs, if offered so little.

If Toronto could sign Matthews, Nylander and Marner for less than 30% of the total cap space, they're in a good position. That's just how things work.. 3 star players will cost a lot of money. On the bright side, this will help lower the risk of bad contracts at deadlines lol

Lol. Nobody is doing those deals. They are all lopsided in Leafs favor. Your values are off Not to mention EDM is trying to trade a LD as they have to many don’t need another.

I love how you sign a couple of UFAs and turn around and trade them. Good luck signing another UFA ever, players frown upon that. And i especially love the “our defense is bad” yet you think you can trade them for 1st and 2nd rounders. Lol.

They aren’t trading for Pecsce or Paryko because those teams aren’t trading them and Leafs would not pay the price for them if they were.

You are in cap trouble because nylander, Matthews, marner are going to be tough to fit under the cap next year.

Now that I have deciphered what you were trying to say here... Sure, that all makes sense. But can you do it? You are asking to dump all kinds of problems on other teams, and what cap dumps are you looking to acquire? The Devils don't have one of those, and the only ones you're taking from Edmonton as more than one year. Look, if a team has a big contract for one, two, even three years (Patrick Marleau), it's manageable. If the contract is for six (Loui Ericksson, Milan Lucic, etc.) years, that becomes the problem.

I don't see this happening, and I think you are underestimating what the kids will make. Marner is getting at least $8, but Nylander is going to get something like $8 if Evander Kane got $7/year

Please look into the last 5-years worth of trade deadline deals for defensemen.

You will notice a ton of guys that arn't worth 1st round picks....returning 1st round picks + mid-picks + prospects.

If he's on pace for 50 points again this year....he will easily return a 1st round pick (which will end up being 20th-30th overall).

Dylan Larkin signed for $6,100,000 x 5 years....LAST WEEK

"NYLANDER IS GETTING SOMETHING LIKE $8,000,000" - logical.

FYI about Dylan Larkin:

- Is Detroits 1st line C and best player
- Is considered Detroit's franchise player
- Is the consensus future captain in Detroit
- Is the same age and from the same draft as Nylander
- Had more points than Nylanders career high last season

Why is Nylander going to get $2,000,000 more than Larkin?

Gary Bettman blatantly said in an interview this summer that he expects revenue increase as much or more than it did last year.

Last year....revenue increased enough for the cap to rise by 6.5 million dollars....but the NHL chose to use part of the increase to reduce salary escrow.

Salary escrow is now at it's lowest % in a decade and Bettman also mentioned that they will not have to reduce escrow again next year.

So Gary Bettman has publicly projected salary cap growth of 6.5 million plus next year....what makes you smart enough to say there's "zero chance" of 5.5 million growth?

ALSO....LOOK INTO HOW THE SALARY CAP WORKS AT THE TRADE DEADLINE PLEASE.

If a team has 1 million in cap-space throughout the season....it increases by four times at the trade deadline because you only take on a portion of the cap hit.

So all of those teams will have cap space for the above rentals....even if they're tight against the cap.

And if they have no single season cap-dumps....Toronto can retain 50% of all of their traded players.

There will be no issues with salary.

Did I say a couple extra picks? (or did you just say that now?)

I said "some extra picks"....and if you'll notice....those extra picks include the following:

1st
2nd + 2nd + 2nd
3rd + 3rd + 3rd
4th
5th
6th
7th

And that would DEFINITELY get you Parayko

You just trolled your reading comprehension skills pretty hard.

"You are asking to dump all kinds of problems on other teams"

The only player that could potentially be considered a problem is Zaitsev....because of his term.

Everyone else is either an expiring contract, a prospect on an ELC, or Zach Hyman (with a great contract).

So I'm not sure what you mean by that.
