The pieces that Montreal would be looking for aren’t there. You basically sent Montreal three low level roster players and a 23 year old winger who hasn’t broken out yet with a 2nd round pick.

Don’t think the value is horrible but none of that is what Montreal is looking for. Their trying to trade Pacioretty for future pieces which means prospects and picks, not low end roster players.

You have to understand its not that the players your using aren't decent players. They're just not what Montreal needs in a Pacioretty trade. Either give us a top 6 center or if not, picks and prospects only. We have no use for Dillon and Karlsson. Plus as good as Labanc is, he's a winger. The wings are the one position MTL already has decent depth at. we need to fill out the other positions. Honestly Josh Norris is the only prospect MTL would covet.

MTL would want a 1st, a top prospect (Norris or Merkley), and a top six player.

You might be able to do Norris, Donskoi, Labanc, and a 1st. However, with MTL declaring they aren't going to sign him, you might be able to remove one of those players. Not Norris and not the 1st.

I want a billion dollars but that doesn't make it realistic. Montreal has no leverage in any Pacioretty negotiation as he is a rental and they have already said they are not interested in tendering him an extension. So unless they are planning on letting him walk for nothing, they handcuffed the return that they are going to get immensely.

Labanc (young 40 point scorer)+Balcers+2nd is as high as you can expect in a return for Patches I think. Young 2nd liner/PP specialist, high-end prospect, and a pick. Basically two guys you can immediately slot into the top 9 this season and a pick. Seems very fair given no assurances on an extension for a declining Pacioretty. If I am DW and trading for a winger, I would rather go the Eberle route instead though as he fits the team style much better than Patches.

They'll have more leverage around the trade deadline when everyone has to overpay. Let me point out, I don't think he's worth what I mentioned. I think at the TDL though, someone will want him and be willing to deal. If he makes it that long. I'd prefer the Sharks not lose another prospect and 1st rounder.
