Pacioretty signs an extension in all of these trades, a decent return would be a 2019 1st and a top prospect/top six forward+B-Level Prospect. Evander Kane is a terrible comparable because he only has one 30 goal season, while Pacioretty has five 30+ goal seasons.
It all depends on the contract too - As in - what he is looking for
A couple things to keep in mind though -A) Bergevin hasn't really got great value in any of his recent trades B) For some reason they let it out that they would not resign him C) I think he will rebound, but he is coming off his worst season, so teams will probably be reluctant to give too much up
and give him the 7M+ he will want.
Don't get me wrong, he could end up being a steal. As you said, I think he is miles better than Kane, but Kane is trending up and really played well when surrounded by some talent. When The talent dried up around Pacioretty, so did his production. Kane is also 3 years younger.
I think it's asking a lot for a team to give up a 1st rounder and a top 6/top prospect & a b level prospect for a guy who is coming off a 17 goal season (thanks Claude) and is a pending UFA. I know an extension, but that's a lot for an unknown. You would have been better off signing JVR or Neal and not giving anything up...
