Spezza for #1C???

Créé par: RC333
Équipe: 2017-18 Canadiens de Montréal
Date de création initiale: 16 mai 2018
Publié: 16 mai 2018
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Spezza is one season away from a 50 point season in 68 games. He has potential to put up numbers if out with good linemates. Maybe just maybe he could be a decent option.

Dallas takes this deal in a heartbeat. Get rid of a $7.5M contract for free and we get a pick? Absolutely!!

Lol not gonna help Dallas out here. Spezza's done and worth absolutely nothing. I'd take him 50% retained for a 7th round pick though.

I like your logic. Lots of older players have had bounce back years due to a change in scenery. He also has only one year left. Bet Habs could get him for less too. He’s a low cost high reward sort of player. I could easily see him getting 50+ points in MTL. Is he a 1C? Absolutely not. But he’s sure as hell better than what they got, and a better value then overpaying a guy like bozak or Stansney in FA

Sabres fan here

I’m pretty sure u can actually get Dallas to add a pick if you’re taking his full salary.
Maybe u get a 2nd from them
And all u guys would most likely have to give up would be a late round pick
Or possibly make a deal like we did with Minny last year, where we got a discount on the player we wanted in Scandella bc we took Pominville’s contract off your hands

Doesn’t fix your problem,
but he seems like a good gamble for u guys

*still need to trade us #3 for O’Reilly though ?

I had to hold down the puke in my mouth when I saw this trade title, couldn’t hold it down though when I saw you gave them a second round pick for him.

This is mostly because as a Hans fan I watched him most of his career in Ottawa a d was never a fan.

Can't think of a better way to spend 7.5m? Spezza has been years way from being a # 1.

Spezza has a M-NTC. He probably wouldn't want to go to montreal if they're rebuilding. Especially because his playing career is longer then the existence of the Minnesota Wild and Columbus Blue Jackets

I'll take Spezza in a trade to the Wild...if you retain 1/2 his salary and give me your next 5 - 1st round picks...

I quoted your post because I agreed with everything you said!
I agree that the logic is good. It depends on how MTL looks at next season. Are they going to embrace the rebuild, or (knowing the amount of money being paid to Price, Weber, Alzner, etc) will they try to find a way to tweak and compete? Assuming they do that latter, Spezza would be a good 1 year option (because JT isn't going to MTL) and it makes no sense to lock up Bozak or Statsny like you said. He's not a #1C anymore, but especially with a team that has a lot of young wings, he could be a great veteran center to play with them. And if he bounces back, he could be a great trade piece at the trade deadline. Maybe even a 2nd Round Pick.

Honestly a deal like Spezza and 6th Round Pick to MTL for a 4th Round Pick makes a lot of sense. You could even make it a 2019 4th Round Pick.

How do you come to this conclusion? Spezza's WAR rating tells a different story than his O stats line: he hasn't lost that much edge, and should still be considered an above average - if not upper quartile - center. If the asked price is a late 2nd rounder (that is, a lottery ticket that's got a 80% chance of blossoming into a career AHLer), what would MTL be loosing here?
