With Neuvirth hurt it would make lots of sense for Philly to pursue a new goalie. The Red Wings are rebuilding, and with Mrazek needing a new contract these two teams seem like a good fit.

I’m not a Philly expert, but I do know they have a deep prospect pool. What would it take for Philly to grab Mrazek?

I think the biggest issue is the fact that Mrazek is making $4 million and will still have RFA status at the end of this season; his play hasn't warranted that kind of pay. Because of his RFA status, Philly would have to also pay him around that same amount next season if they want to keep him. They could not give him a QO, but that would cause him to become a UFA and he would have his choice of 30 other teams to play for; Philly would have given up assets for less than half a season of an inconsistent goalie.

Right, but that inconsistent goalie is also a .910 this year, and has historically has had very high peaks. Additionally, he is certainly a better option than Alex Lyon, and with the playoffs so close, there's a chance he could end up being a key piece in case of reinjury/slow return.

Furthermore, while 4 million is a lot, the Flyers are opening up a significant amount of cap space that does not have to be filled. Other than maybe hurting their chances at a John Tavares signing, giving Mrazek a QO doesn't seem like the worst move in the world.

A third-round pick seems like a fair price. Maybe it ends up being a fourth and moving from the sixth to seventh or something, but that's realistically all semantics.

There is a couple of things to consider. The Flyers are notorious for not disclosing important details on the exact injury and the time missed.

We also have no idea of the credibility to this report. Hextall also may have no interest in Petr Mrazek / Hextall may not want to risk giving up a 3rd when he can get Chad Johnson for a 6th.

or Philly can just take Niemi from MTL to keep the bench warm until one of Elliott or Neuvirth come back, that'll let Lyon play more games. For the low price a 7th rd pick! the irony is PHI's 7th this year belongs to the Habs lol So MTL would just be getting theirs back.

the tweet was literally in response to Neuvirth getting hurt

as for the trade offer, probably. but if Hextal doesn't want Mrazek's $4mil cap hit because he might be considering other moves. then DET could just want a 7th and PHI could still refuse for all we know.

But DET offered PHI a 3rd before Neuvirth's injury, and PHI said no. That could change with Neuvirth's injury.

Yeah, but you seem to be saying Mrazek to Philly is a no for sure. Sure, it may not happen, but it could ...

4th round pick to much for a guy to just get you into the playoffs. You dont have to quakify hin so he would become a FA

that's the whole point of this thread... it may or may not happen.

all I said is that Hextall might not want Mrazek period. For all we know DET could only be asking for a 7th and PHI still refuses

According to Daron Dreger, Philly and Detroit have been engaged in ongoing negotiations about Mrazek.

I think it's a great advantage of having a player on this final of his RFA. Plays well, you might resign him or be able to trade. Don't want him for any reason, just don't offer him a contract. That would certainly be worth a third rounder if like Mrazek for at least the short term.
