The Jackets may not be as far off from contending as people think. With a few moves the Jackets could be a very formidable opponent as soon as next year.

SJ needs young talent. They could use a blue liner and could use another really promising young winger. This trade hurts the CBJ but addresses the C position that has plagued this organization since inception.

Laine needs a change of scenery and Montreal could use a proven goal scorer. Montreal needs to take the next step forward. The price is high but they do get him for 2 years.

I think signing Duchene would be absolutely worth 5 mil a year. Duchene’s face off ability would help take pressure off Fantilli and allow Fantilli to play more and continue to develop.

Note: I would say Laine could go to any team depending on who is willing to give up the right value but Montreal just seems like a team that could actually do it.
