Description
On Horvat trade assume retention and a Sign & Trade; 8 x $7.25M; CAR upgrades their C depth and DOES have room to resign given they have 10 UFAs going into next season. Allows CAR to keep their "gem" in Morrow. Rathbone is a proven asset in the AHL in terms of scoring and has NHL upside from the LHS. Retention also allows CAR to add more at the TDL.

Team likely won't be able to explore moving on from the remaining bad money deals, including the Myers & OEL contracts until the summer, when a better understanding of '23-24 cap implications is made.

These trades secure VAN with additonal RFAs with a spread in the expiry of their deals that give VAN time to determine if the player is still fungible, in what role and at what cost.

Also, it allows for negligible carry-over of bonuses into next year; with the removal of ~$6M in deadcap, this gives VAN more flexibility to pursue similar deals to CAR where they could accommodate a higher value deal and potentially also take on prospects and picks for a more favourable return.

Can't see the Canucks doing that Kuzmenko trade. They'd certainly re-sign him over getting a later 2nd and a 4th liner.

Sens have no interest in taking Boesner's contract. Canes might do that trade just to get rid of KK'x contract, but Canucks shouldn't

Lol Boeser isn't bringing in that return from Ottawa. Rather have Joseph as my 3RW At 2.95 vs Boeser as the 3RW at 6.6mil

Maybe the Canucks get a better offer for Kuzmenko but do you really think Kuzmenko wants to resign with the Canucks? He has lots of options

Yeah, I do actually. It's well reported right now that he likes it here, is talking extension (~6 mil bridge, ~7 long term), and feels comfortable in Van after moving from Russia.

I know the Canucks are a tire fire, and it wouldn't surprise me if players want out. Bo Horvat is a prime example of someone who's reportedly wanting out, even Pettersson has had rumblings about wanting out, but from those same sources, Kuz loves it here and wants to stay.
