    Future considerations

    - Trade happens before the regular season begins. TOR clears cap and MTL adds a much needed RHD.

    CGY
    1. Dadonov, Evgeni (2 500 000 $ retained)
    Détails additionnels:
    - Trade happpens around the turn of the year. CGY adds a RW they've been targeting and MTL adds futures. Assuming that Dadonov is scoring at 0.6 PPG rate at the time of the trade.

    1. Monahan, Sean (3 187 500 $ retained)
    2. Choix de 5e ronde en 2023 (CGY)
    Détails additionnels:
    - Trade happens near the trade deadline. MIN adds a depth center with comeback potential for their potential playoff run, while MTL gets some futures. Assuming that Monahan has played at a 0.5 PPG rate until the trade, and has remained healthy for most of the year.

    3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (NJD)
    NJD
    1. Anderson, Josh
    Détails additionnels:
    - Trade happens at the trade deadline. Probably the most controversial of all trades here, but I think similar to Chiarot case last year some GM is going to be suckered to trade a hefty amount for a very average player. This time I think it'll be NJ in their quest to make the playoffs. MTL receives a haul of futures.
    6.
    MTL
    1. Primeau, Mason
    2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (VGK)
    Détails additionnels:
Conditional pick: if VGK makes the playoffs and Drouin earns 10 points in the timespan between the deadline and the start of playoffs, the pick gets upgraded to a 2024 2nd round pick.
    VGK
    1. Drouin, Jonathan (2 750 000 $ retained)
    Détails additionnels:
    - Trade happens at the trade deadline. VGK takes a punt at a winger to create some depth in case of injuries. MTL gets a pick and a prospect. Due to cap reasons VGK also moves a 2023 5th round pick to a third party to retain remaining 50% of Drouin's cap hit.

Minnesota declines easily. Monahan to Minnesota will never happen. Our gm doesn't like him. A player you got a 1st to take on isn't going to be traded to a Minnesota team who needs a 1c for 2nd round pick or anything .

Toronto won't make that trade. I know a lot of talk has been made about how the leafs desperately want to get rid of him, but for now there is no better option. Moving him doesn't give them enough space to sign Sandin, and without Holl or Sandin, the right side looks very weak.

Big issue im having is Monahan hasnt played at a .5ppg in a while and even if he does that doesnt get you a prospect + 2nd. Maybe a 3rd ? Anderson hasnt been great either. in his last 121gp he has 56p... .46ppg. explain why a team would give up a 1st + 2 prospects for such a lackluster player? I'd argue Anderson is one more average season away from being a cap dump / negative contract based off production / $$

@justaboss thanks for posting this. I love seeing other fans take time and effort into a Habs trade thread. I dont agree with all your takes but I enjoyed taking a study break and reading through your thoughts. All in all, I wouldn't be disappointed if this is how the year went down though I would hope Dadanov, Monahan and Drouin have big years and can fetch stronger returns.

What in the holy hell is that Devils trade? Devils wouldn't take Anderson for free.

Also it came out last night that the Devils plan to be sellers at the deadline this year
