Off-season 4
I understand the value of Tanev, but wow, just wow on that Buffalo trade. Mittlestadt just came off his best year, and is still young. Tanev is 33 and a 1 year rental. No matter how good you think Mittlestadt is, he just had a very good finish to the season; he might regress or he might improve. You don't just give that away for a 1 year rental, unless you have a cup window open and the player coming back is better than Tanev. Then, to top it off, you have picks going to Calgary? Wrong way on those picks there...
Vladar for a 3rd is optimistic. I've argued this before. Backup goalies who have gotten traded for a 3rd or better are almost all better than Vladar. A lot of the deals that were done were with salary retention or cap reasons. Yes, he is cheap, as all backups generally should be, but a sub .900 save % is not good, no matter how bad the team was in front of the guy.

If Michkov is there at 5, I doubt Montreal slides down.
Detroit should really focus on moving the Islanders pick up into the 6-12 range.
Islanders trade is not great for Detroit. I don't know if Calgay would bite, but 9, let's say 12, and 16, Detroit could get a top center, Pelikka (or, sigh, Reinbacher), and a winger like Barlow, maybe Leonard is still there, or take a gamble on a different winger.

Minnesota probably declines. Foligno seems to be too valuable. Not saying he is, but I get the sentiment.

Makes sense for the Rangers. I would have to see who is still there in the 20s. Plenty of 1st round talents will be there in the 40s. Honzek, Dower Nillson, I think somebody will draft Willander early, Danil But would be a top 20 if he weren't in the Russian league.

You like Wood? I know nothing of him.
My hope is Pelikka and Moore. Keeps in tbe mold of guys who can skate. I hope Detroit can trade up and land both. I'll be a lot more optimistic having those two than I would having a future cap breaker in Bedard. Don't get me wrong, I'd be perfectly elated to have Bedard or Fantilli, but Moore and Pelikka would be the ultimate consolation prize.
In two years, Detroit's top 4 will be mostly big and highly mobile. Three great skating two way centers. Man I'd love that.

Petersen, Spence, and a 2023 2nd for McIsaac and a 7th. I think Detroit can bury or buy ot Peterson easily. Maybe he rebounds?

Too bad Carlson is a wing. He hasn't played center in the SHL. Look at his SHL faceoff numbers if you want proof and don't want to do any digging. Columbus needs a bonafide center. I'd either take Michkov and wait a few years, or trade down a few spots and get one of tbe many centers in this draft.
Carlson has a high risk of not living up to draft pedigree. Same with Will Smith, or Dvorsky.

I'd do the Nylander trade for 6 or 7 years at 8 or 7.5.
Before you say he needs a raise, it is considering taxes from Toronto to Detroit.

If Michkov fell to 7
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItsAlwaysSunnyInDetroit</b></div><div>I want Yzerman to make every single pick they have this year. Unless the opportunity to trade into the top 4 presents itself. These DeBrincat trade proposals have got to go. Take BPA all day, develop them for a year, trade Kubalik and Perron next deadline, see which of Matthews, Nylander, Aho, DeBrincat, Meier, Stephenson, Reinhart, etc make it to FA. At that point we'll have assets coming out the wazoo. That is the time to swing a big time trade.</div></div>
My only issue is the Isles pick. Yzerman may have a different idea, but I think there is a slim chance we can get two of Pelikka, Moore (both might be off the board by 9), Smith (high ceiling or bust), Leonard, Reinbacher, or Yager. If only 1 is available, and they are all gone at 17/18, then trading the pick for something else is better than getting a winger who can maybe help in a few years. There's a lot of good wingers in this draft, but none are close to ready outside of one's projected in the top 10-15 overall. Even still, I know nothing of Sale, Wood, or Heidt, and I'm not impressed by Benson

23-24 NYR 1 MIL CAP INCREASE - REAL BIG SHAKEUP
Detroit will take trouba instead. Apply that 4th round pick to Trouba. As long as you plan to eat salary, apply the buyout cost to retention, and shorten the cap hit time. Detroit will gladly give a 4th for Trouba at 5.8 million.

Makes a ton more sense for San Jose. Habs have had bad luck on Russians. All but Kovalev seem to get dumped out of town. San Jose has more time to wait for Michkov.

Getting Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingofRnR</b></div><div>He also had no contract and received twice the cap hit he should have
Vladar’s Cap Hit is $550k-$1.3mil less than it should be for the next 2 years = cost certainty. That bumps his value up to a 2nd
Look at Vladar’s Win Percentage and GAA. Winning and keeping the Goals Allowed under 3 is far more important than his Sv% and if you knew anything about the Flames and the breakdowns they had this season, you would understand why his Sv% isn’t higher, but you don’t, so time to move on</div></div>
Can you site some examples of goalie trades for backups that got more than a 3rd? Or even the equivalent of a 3rd? Preferably ones made before a season starts, but seriously, let's take anything.

Pretty sure that's what I was getting at.
Ottawa will not get back what they paid. They will not get close to what they paid.
The Sens bought a nice low mileage sports car and they paid blue book value, maybe a bit above. A year later, there are more miles, and nobody is sure if that engine noise is ok or not. Probably nothing, but the noise is still there. The Sens are realizing tbe upkeep of their toy sports car is a little more than they thought it would be, and the car didn't drive like they thought it would. So tell me, who pays for a year older car with assured higher maintenance costs and possible problems?
