Was asking the OP for the counter argument... but thanks. The contract doesn't hold the Sabres back whatsoever - unless they plan to spend 11 mill more for 2+ years (from this summer) on outside talent. Sabres have loads of skill in the pipeline but not many role players, so yeah I'd be interested in a player who has been an absolute menace defensively, on the PK, and in the playoffs.
Edit - but TBF it was definitely a bad signing for the Rangers with their situation

Next step
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Well, that probably seemed harsher than I meant it, but:
- Asplund bringing back a 1st round pick... no way
- Boston trading out of the 1st round to dump Reilly, whom they do not need to dump, and get Bryson who they don't need to add.
- Thinking CHI has any interest in Comrie or that Kisakov and a late 2nd would get Murphy or that CHI is sending a 4th round pick in that deal.
- Thinking that offer gets Meier. It's maybe close value-wise depending on how you value Mitts, Johnson, and Savoie. But outside of Savoie and MAYBE Johnson, I doubt there is much SJS is interested in.
- Tuch for Portillo is fine I guess
- I feel like BUF should be able to do better than a 2nd for Olofsson. But I guess it's close enough.
So, Idk. Maybe "ridiculous" was a little strong of a word to use. But, thinking BUF is going to add two more 2023 1st round picks and Meier without really giving up anything of value or taking on more significant cap dumps is just a pipe dream.</div></div>
That's my bad for reading into intention lol. That makes sense. Would like to hear the thought on the Calgary trade for sure, and the Boston one be might be thinking Boston makes a big move and needs the space? But still it's moving back ~20 spots for 1.2 mill and a 7th defenseman so you're prob right there too

MAKE A MOVE ALREADY KA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>worldwidesensei</b></div><div>Why does KA need to make a move? BUF has been one of the better teams in the league since Samuelsson's return to injury on Nov 22, sporting a 13-7-2 record since then scoring 4.14 goals per game and allowing 3.32, defeating BOS, WSH and MIN- 3 of the hottest teams in the league along the way. BUF can go toe-to-toe with anyone right now.
BUF is the most exciting team in the league and on the path to the playoffs.
We don't need to make any moves.</div></div>
This is funny because I see that as exactly the reason to make a move. Double down and get some help the kids bounce back from slumps like they're currently on. Idk if they need to make a blockbuster, but bolstering their lineup seems like a no-brainer to me - one injury can send this team down a spiral with all the inconsistency in the middle 6 and bottom 3

Which ones are ridiculous? I think they're reasonable if not ideal.
- I'm sure SJ wants a 1st, but they're getting a ton of value. it's 2 2nds (if Johnson doesn't sign), our top prospect and Mittelstadt is polarizing but has legit 2C potential if he can find consistency
- A solid W prospect and a mid 2nd for Murphy isn't far off, if at all from what I've seen on here.
- don't know Calgarys situation, so might have one there.
- Tuch for Portillo seems harmless enough
- Olofsson is worth at least a mid 2nd

If Mitts keeps playing like he has the last few games, I might not love this but I like the idea of Goodrow. @ OP have you seen much of the Rangers this year? Everyone on this site seems really down on Goodrow

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny54</b></div><div>I can't see trading Olofsson unless there is another trade for a goal scorer. This team is a one line team and Olofsson and Cozens are the only secondary scoring we are getting from the forwards. There is a reason Peterka and Quinn have been benched as neither has scored a goal in over a month (supposedly both will play Saturday).</div></div>
(Not detracting from your point on the two rooks struggling right now)
Another reason for benching is Hinostroza and Asplund haven't played in a month, and 22/77 are both waiver exempt.. Hino and Aspy seem likely to be on the way out to keep UPL in Buffalo. So I was looking at these couple games as a tryout to keep their job here, while letting the younguns take a step back and regroup. Not saying that's right, that's just how I see it

I think Vic is worth more than that with retention, considering the potential to flip him next year at $1.2 as a rental (or just having a 30 goal scorer at $2.4)
Would love to get Konecny

Mitts:
6th on the team in points. (on the highest scoring team in the league)
3rd on the team in PP/60. (33rd in the NHL)

Probably because 6 of those 8 points came from 3 games so you had to go back to the Pittsburgh game. Also those 2 goals in Detroit were luck, as everyone noted at the time. Those 3 games (6 points) also account for the majority of his 5v5 points on the year. If Olofsson's biggest knock is that he is streaky, we can't then say Mittlestadt is better because of his performance in 3 games out of 39</div></div>
He didn't say anything about Olofsson nor did he reply to something about Olofsson. Take a breath. Mittlestadt is allowed to play well sometimes, wish it was more, but he does do it sometimes

Unless it's a top 4 Dman, trading him is a negative, not many top 4 dmen are going to be available for a 28 year old winger. I'd rather have a streaky Olofsson than the Bryson and Mittlestadt pylons. Dump Mittlestadt for a 2nd and give Olofsson someone to work with. Olofsson and Krebs have worked well together but rarely get any time
Mittlestadt just missed the net from the top of the crease....</div></div>
Olofsson was a trash 5v5 player with a top 10 center in the league and a top 30 winger... you make this point about bad linemates but ignore its the same situation for Mittlestadt.
And this post has them getting a top 4 dman and Olofsson more than recouped the value lol

Same. Olofsson <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>worldwidesensei</b></div><div>You're trading a guy that is on a 33 goal pace for a 2nd round pick????
Olofsson is tied for 47th in the league in goals.
He has as many goals as Marner, JT Miller, Suzuki...
And more than Kucherov, Eichel, Tkachuk and about 800 other NHL players.
2nd round picks have a pretty small chance of even making the NHL.</div></div>
I'm not rushing to get rid of him. As said in the description this was just for fun, so i didnt put too much thought into the trade values. If they went out and got Foligno (or comparable gritty bottom 6 guy) - I'd be close to happy with this value for Olofsson since they'd have to move a body out.

This. I think if they retain on Olofsson he'd have a crazy amount of value to a contender, rebuilding, or limbo team. Additional 50% retention next year from the team who gets him can more than recoup their value selling a $1.2/year 30 goal scorer, or keep a 30 goal scorer for $2.4/year

Not crying about Vic. He has a ton of value and idk if Mittelstadt does on the trade market (he should) . When Mitts is playing well he carries his line, he just hasn't been able to put it together for long stretches.
Mitts has also been playing his entire career with no one to work with. In 1-2 years if he's still just a solid 2nd unit PP guy and infuriatingly inconsistent 5v5 the choice to open up a spot for Savoie is pretty damn easy.

Yeah hed be excellent on a team that can cover for him 5v5. This team can't. Also, I'm not making this trade unless I'm adding a forward.
Off the top of my head 5 guys on this post's roster were drafted in the 2nd round or later, I'd rather get a 1st but I'd accept this value for him.
