THIS! I wouldn't necessarily add a goalie, but IMO this is where we're missing the mark as Sabres fans.
We should invest in the young core. I think some of us Sabres fans are traumatized by the tank > transition > support Eichel era

IMO tho, the good thing about Chychrun is his deal lasts through those two big extensions. In 3 years we can either keep him as a rental, or move him. $4.6 mill is okay in terms of our guys we need to keep - unless BUF is trying to add $8-9 mill more in outside contracts

Buffalo Needs a goalie
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mv21227</b></div><div>If Demko was on a team that was actually competent (not even good but average) on the PK and just at playing defense, he’d be looked at much better than he is. Everyone is down on him because of 15 bad games this season, but last year he was top 3 in the league in 5v5 save % and 5v5 GSAx, and the previous two seasons combined he was second in 5v5 GSAx. The Canucks defense, and specifically the PK, has been completely incompetent which hurts his numbers, but his advanced stats show he is an elite goalie</div></div>
That's kind of the debacle with these UPL for Demko trades.. Sabres PK isn't good and they're still growing defensively. Demko is definitely interesting, but I don't know if he solves their problems without some changes to their D core.
Also, UPL has grown a lot already since getting regular NHL starts, so idk if that's the play for Buffalo right now

Would hope to get a 3rd or 4th for him, or an interesting prospect who's fallen out of favor. I.E. there's been a lot of MTL/BUF posts with a Portillo/Luke Tuch swaps, which sounds fun at least.
Ideally he signs in Buffalo tho! You're right tho he'd be a good add to yours or any other farm system

I think that's a lot for Buffalo, but it's pretty reasonable considering their prospect depth at forward and Joker likely not being a major piece after this contract.
Side note - Idk if this is an accurate comp bc i havent watched much of Chychrun in the NHL.. but he kinda reminds me of Bogosian early on in his career. He has all the potential in the world but early injury bug throws a question mark in everything

Sabres don't need another goalie for the carousel currently. I also don't know why they would take on the risk of a 2nd round pick for Portillo not signing, even if that is allowed (as RavensShadow mentioned it isn't). Happy to find a home for Hino tho he shouldn't be in the minors

Nobody sees this good play. Constant mishandles, poor decisions, bad shots, but he accidentally finds Olofsson in front of the net and all of a sudden he's a playmaking master. Jost has been carrying the water on that line if your talking about players working with out the stats showing it, Mittlestadt skates aimlessly</div></div>
I'm sure you're a pleasure to have Mittelstadt conversations with in person, too.
They've been playing together with Jost for more than a month. Mittelstadt has been playing multitudes better this 3 or so weeks. And, strangely, before Jost was even on the team they had great stretches too since Granato came on. Olofsson has become less of a liability this past year, but his game is being in a spot and finishing. I hope the growth continues.
I openly acknowledge flaws in Mittelstadt's game and his inconsistency, but you and others cannot acknowledge *any* good from his play. But I'm the blind one, and "there is no reverse".

He's just lucky he's on a line with Olofsson and Jost so he can get his secondary assists (5-6 of his 11)</div></div>
:tearsofjoy :tearsofjoy
It's funny because his great play the last month has little to do with his point totals. He's been a good player during that stretch and you still can't acknowledge that he's had a small stint of good hockey.

Hawks decline because they don't want a 28 year old D in Lyubishkin. I realize you'll have a log jam on the blue line with the 2 new additions so maybe he can be traded somewhere else. As for Neuchev, I'm dead against obtaining Russians currently playing in the mother country. You never know if and when they'll sign a NHL contract. So in place of those two, Hawks will accept different forward prospect and another pick - Bloom and the Philadelphia 2nd.
And the Hawks are not sending backing the 2025 3rd.</div></div>
Lybushkin was just for free basically, wasnt meant to add muxh to the trade. Ill just take him out for simplicity's sake.
A different prospect is a reasonable ask, but adding the 33rd pick and not sending anything back isn't.
I'd do the existing 1st, Buffalo's 2nd and Bloom (likely become top 5-10 in your system?), and maybe a little extra. Seems like that's at the very high end of their combined value <strong>**in a vacuum,**</strong> but I do understand that you're looking for the "make me move" price

And if Lybushkin was playing up to expectations, he wouldn't be in this deal.</div></div>
Not following your logic on Neuchev.. you didn't have every pick in the draft. So if whoever they took was 66 on their board, and Neuchev was 67, that means they didn't like him?
Lybushkin is a throw in but we can just do the paper transaction dance we've been doing. (Edit: tbf I didn't mention that anywhere)
What are they worth separately in terms of draft picks? The Hawks fans asking for a 1st and a prospect for either of them are asking for way too much

They have the right to do so in this country. Provorov is under contract with the team, so if the team forced him to partake we would be having a different conversation, but again it would be within the team's and players rights.
