Highly doubt chicago would give up a 2nd. Maybe a 3rd and definitely a 4th, but they aren't going to give up a 2nd as Kuz would only be of valuable to Chicago to flip at the TDL next year and that's probably what he's worth as a rental.

Canucks trade deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mbaer84</b></div><div>I agree he's been good. I think the issue with why he's already being traded is more that his contract is the most movable, and they have to move out money to bring anyone in who isn't on an ELC or league minimum.</div></div>
Sure. I get that much. I just don't think any of this is necessary. Why disrupt chemistry and leave a possible hole on defense while adding scoring that VAN doesn't really need? There is no guarantee Carrier's play, or O'Reilly's for that matter, will translate the same way in VAN's systems and pairings, as it does in NSH's, and Myers is working well for them and could be their own rental. Idk. Just seems like a lot of value going out for a few moves that change the team pretty drastically and is not a sure thing.
Why not just keep Myers, and package Kuzmenko to bring in O'Reilly? Then VAN wouldn't be expending so much value, and the disruption to team chemistry would be minimized. NSH is looking for exciting players, and Kuzmenko is an exciting player (when he is playing well, that is).

I hear you. It's such a trip how people view Miller, like they don't watch him play at all. If he gets OS at a higher price than this, you let him walk. Let another team sign Tyler Myers 2.0. 13/18 of the teams eligible to do that were lottery teams this year. He'll be better if he's given time to develop, but I don't like the odds of him being able to live up to that deal given what he's looked like here.

What does BUF and NJ think
No reason to sell Demko at discount. Could do it in off-season and find a lot more bidders.
For Boeser, why not ask for a prospect instead of McLeod? MM is just a role player, but fits as 4C

Would this lineup be a contender
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mbaer84</b></div><div>maybe fair enough with the rest of the package but what would the rights to Gritsyuk for a team trading a pick for him be if there was a question of him coming over or no? Not being snarky asking your opinion?</div></div>
Oh ok, got it.
As far as I'm aware there's no real doubt as to whether Gritsyuk is coming over or not, from what I gather that's more of an inevitability.
The question is more whether Gritsyuk comes to NA for the 23/24 season or the one after.
As for the player, I'm VERY high on Gritsyuk.
Last season he had some of the strongest 5v5 impacts in the KHL, as tracked by Lassi Alanen, and while his scoring rates are down this season he is by all accounts still playing very well.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nighthawk</b></div><div>Devils advocate pun intended…
Boeser is still on a 60pt pace & not on PP1. Now that Bo is gone expect him back on it. It’s one thing to pick on a single season that isn’t over. It’s getting stale. You cannot honestly believe he has nothing more to give? Also given the coach carousel & constant line blender most wingers are not doing well other than Kuzmenko. Change of scenery can only help. On his 6.65m cap hit there is some merit in that the flat cap has made it a league wide issue to move many players. It deflates value across the board.</div></div>
I get all that, but it doesn't change the fact that Boeser is constantly getting outshot, outchanced and outscored (also worse in those regards relative to the Canucks average) whenever he steps onto the ice at 5v5.
Despite his rather decent rate of production (60pt pace as you say), the Canucks are worse off with Boeser on the ice.
The Canucks are paying a very big price for the points he puts up.

I think going after Horvat makes a ton of sense for them(not saying trading Wright does). Beniers and Wennberg are already top six centers (although Wennberg might be on the lower echelon of that) and Wright could be a top six center as soon as next season. Seattle's plan is not just win now, but win sustainably in the long term. Wright is going to play a major role in that. I do agree that Horvat makes sense as a target for Seattle, but trading Wright to get him is a non-starter.

Both of those things should matter. Plus / minus (in proper context) and being on a winning team are not antiquated.
What humors me are those that scoff at +/- as some old useless stat, but throw GF% around as some hip, new, modern, whiz-bangy stat.
My gripe with Norris trophy is that it’s become too much of a offensive/points award. I’d love to see the Slavins, Sigenethalers of the league get more recognition.

He's a right shooting winger and Perron isn't here after next season. Also check out his efficiency, he's scoring at the same rate as Larkin is if you correct for icetime. He's also good at driving the play and draws more penalties than he takes and has more takeaways than giveaways.
We need right shooters and don't have any in house, this is a good option if we get him for a 3rd. He is also cheaper than Vrána so cap isn't a problem.

Miller to Carolina
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mbaer84</b></div><div>Who do you see as their 1-4 Cs next year? Not trying to argue just wondering how a Canes fan would like to see their lineup shake out.</div></div>
Aho is the clear 1C, with Staal as the clear 3C. Assuming that Trocheck walks and Necas doesn’t get traded, I would expect KK and Necas to split time as 2C, depending on what side of the ice the draw is taken on. As for 4C, it’s very likely going to be Drury that gets elevated out of Chicago. I feel like that is the most likely scenario to occur, but then again, this would all depend on Trocheck walking and Necas not getting traded, so there is a margin for error in my assessment.
Vancouver fans are so eager to shove Miller at Carolina for exuberant prices, yet very few seem to actually look at the Canes cap situation, specifically for the 2024 off-season, and why Miller to Carolina will never work. A big chunk of the core needs to be resigned that offseason, with the biggest names being Aho, Turbo, Jarvis, Skjei, Pesce, and potentially Drury as well. That’s also not counting the players down in Chicago or the players that they sign between now and then that may expire that year. Miller was reported to want an 8x8 contract or something of the sort, and Vancouver fans eagerly point out that Staal, Fast, Freddie, and Raanta are coming off the books next year. While that is true, next year really isn’t the problem, and giving Miller, who when his next deal begins will be on the wrong side of 30, that massive contract, will force the Canes to more than likely let players like Turbo and Skjei walk instead of resigning them. Just my opinion, but I would much rather lock up both Turbo and Skjei to long term deals and not acquire Miller than lose both for nothing and be anchored with that Miller contract.
I do apologize for my rant, but the Canes will not chuck that much value at a pure rental. If they go for a rental, it would be an acquisition like Domi, who won’t cost much to bring in but is an impact player. And that is historically how the Canes have operated.

Ouf. Good thing NYR bogey'd hard on 7OA (Lias Andersson), because that trade looked BAD at the time. Even with his on ice issues, it's kind of funny that ADA, who was essentially a throw-in, was easily the most valuable piece in that trade.

A third liner on Vancouver. He wouldn’t even crack the Canes fourth line. So, at best, if he goes to Carolina, he would be on the fourth line. More likely he would be the 14th forward behind Stepan. It’s nothing against Motte personally, as I really like him, but he would not be a good fit for the Canes. Could he improve our already league leading PK even further, sure, but do we really need to acquire him for that, no. Canes likely acquire a defenseman at the deadline, with H. Lindholm being one of the leading candidates.

I'm a huuuuuugge Coronato fan so this is tough for me but that it a pretty well put together deal. The cap is obviously the problem, I do think if this deal were to come to fruition it wolud signal the end of Johnny Hockey in Calgary. As hard as that would be for the Flames without any other moves the line up is still:
Miller - Lindholm - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Monahan - Toffoli
Pelletier - Backlund - Coleman
Lucic - Ruzicka - Anyone
It's a competitive team and likely way harder to play against with Miller and Pelletier in there as opposed to Gaudreau and Dube. This is a super interesting post, well done.

trading with Avs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mbaer84</b></div><div>tbh i think hes exactly what they need. Top line player on a team friendly deal that can play the middle plus since his contract expires after next year gives them cap flexibility when they resign McKinnon to all the moneys. He would be perfect though on the wing with Newhook to help him with Center/faceoff responsibilities as he develops much like he did with Petey when he got to VAN.</div></div>
Sure in a vacuum, but they give up a cost controlled dman that is a top 4 guy and as much as nobody wants the best Byram is a question mark health wise which imo makes Sakic VERY reluctant to part with him. I’m not saying Miller isn’t worth that type of price but for the Avs he’s a 2nd line guy that you are paying 1st line price for and if the impetus is to protect Newhook you could always just slide Landeskog down because he did it for MacKinnon. Throw in the fact COL is short on picks those top prospects become more valuable because of the salary size and the roles you can plug them into.
