Can't see the Canucks taking TVR given he's under contract for two more years after this one.
Sorry, wrong D-man. Disregard.

Word has been that retention on Garland is 30%. That $1.485 million. My thinking, you want them to retain 2, the offer has to have either a right handed D or a right handed third line centre.
Otherwise, they can just buy him out and the penalty is less than 2 mil per.
Besides, he's playing his best hockey as a Canuck right now.

Rounding out the offseason
The more I've thought on this, the less I'm buying this rumour, or at the very least, it's an old one now.
Maybe if it was on the table before the last week of June, and if the Canucks had a subsequent deal on the table for Garland that included Hoglander as a sweetener?
But trading a right shot defenseman for yet another middle six under achieving winger? How does that make any sense? You are just blocking the development path of your younger players while weakening the depth on your blueline. Besides, Alvin knows he can get better value for Myers than that at the TDL.
So yeah, I call BS on this rumour.

Yup, all that nonsense last year from Alvin about the BPA...????
Maybe I'm crazy, but it makes more sense to me to reach for a right shot defenseman when you have the 15th pick in a weak draft, and then take the best best player available in the deepest draft of the decade.
Who would you rather have? Chesley and Benson or Lekkerimaki and Willander?

Buffalo's 2023 first and Philly's 2023 2nd round pick + Levi, just to ensure the Canucks don't hang up the phone.
Fans can think what they want, but the Canucks can get a draft pick for Myers without a sweetener if they wait until the TDL.
And if they were to make Demko available, which is a BIG if, you'd have at least 6 teams bidding for him.

Canucks pass. Kuznetsov has zero value to them. It would be smarter for them to just buy Boeser out than trade him for Kuznetsov.

What's truly hilarious is that Toronto is even considering hiring the guy that traded Sam Bennett for a bag of pucks, let Gaudreau walk for nothing, traded Tkachuk for Huberdeau and Weegar and then massively overpaid them both in lengthy extensions AND THEN fell on his sword for Daryl Sutter.
So what you do now is, go to the alley at 123 Yonge, knock three times and ask for "Chief".

So Carolina's problems are that they are thin at centre, don't have a goaltender that can win them games and can't offer anything better than Brent Burns at the number one D spot.
And your answer is to offer sheet Cole Caulfield?
Do you like getting swept in the ECF every second year?

Hellebuyck and Dubois Trades
The Jets desperately need help on the right side of their D and have an elite goalie they are willing to move for the right price.
The Devils have an excess of right shot defensemen and desperately need an elite goalie.
Seems like you might be barking up the wrong tree, to me.

Nylander - Pack Your Bags
There's two reason the Leafs are going nowhere fast.
One, they don't have a legit number one defenseman. I suppose this deal is trying to address that, but I don't see Byram as a number one.
Two, they have three of the worst contracts in the league. In fact, the Matthews and Marner deals may be two of the worst in league history. Not only are you paying $11M each to two players that have collectively only hit 100 points once in their careers, but both contracts walk them to UFA before they turn 30, which means you're going to have give them raises on those ridiculously bloated deals to extend them. The idea that they would actually consider swallowing the highest AAV in the league for Matthews is completely insane, and only in the Vortex of Nonsense that is Toronto would they even consider this. These contracts are so bad, you'd have to treat any trade for either player as partial cap dumps at this point.
And then you give Tavares $11M, a local guy who probably would have happily signed for 8 per.
If Dubas is responsible for these contracts, there is now way he should be back as GM. It's Toronto, for crying out loud. You could ice the Coyotes in that market and they'd still be sold out for decades. Don't believe me? Go back and look at their history in the 80's, when they could barely make the playoffs in the Norris division and were filling Maple Leaf Gardens every night. There is no reason for the Leafs to be handing out contracts that pay players on their potential, nor should they have the need to be overpaying to attract and keep talent.
And if it was Shanahan that handed out those deals, then he should be fired.
Sorry Leafs' Nation, you're still the hot mess you've been since the 70's, and you're probably still another generation at least away from winning the Stanley Cup.

Interesting, showing some ideas that are at least different from the "trade JT Miller" trope.
But.
You're not getting Swayman in a deal like that. And I imagine the Bruins will move Ullmark before they move Swayman.
You're low on Schenn, and way low on Graves.
I'd be surprised if Anaheim wasn't on Myers' NTC list, and I don't think Boeser is a Verbeek-type player.

Flip Picks for taking Garland
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tjm220</b></div><div>I think the only reason Buffalo would want to move up is if somehow Reinbacher is still there. He probably won’t make it outside the top 10. Buffalo has no need or want for Garland. Maybe you can find a team that can actually use him.</div></div>
You're the Sabres fan, so you'd know better than I would. I do find that a surprising take, though. Garland is a pretty good 5-on-5 player that could help the Sabres into the playoffs, IMO. And from the outside looking in, they could use Sandin-Pellikka's offense on the right side.

I wouldn't complain if the Canucks landed on Leonard, he certainly projects to be the type of player Tocchet should appreciate. But I really think I'd go with Danielson at 11, if things ahead of them go as expected. Maybe not a flashy pick, but the reads on him suggest he's a dependable player all over the ice with enough offense to push for a top 6 role. And they need a right shot centre.
I do a mock draft order every morning, and today I got Vancouver at 1 and the Flyers at 2. Just sayin'....

First, don't fire your coach.
Second, stop lying to yourselves about your number one centre position. You either need to find a way to add a legitimate number one centre, or get a second centre that's at least as good as Zibanejad (it's not Chytil). And the only way you're going to manage that is to stop bathing in your riches on the right side of the blueline and be prepared to move Schneider.
I suggest you start in Winnipeg, and find out just how dead set Dubois is on playing in Montreal.
Third, get better at the top of the left side of your defense. That Troechek for Girard deal would work.

Canucks Off-season
Unless I'm mistaken, they need to be cap compliant to start the season with Pearson's and Poolman's contracts counting against the cap; they can't put them on LTIR until after the season starts.
Now they could start both in the minors, but they would still need to carry 3.5 million for those two against the cap...
Still thinking they can't avoid that OEL buyout...

Miller Trade
I really wish you all would just stop with the Miller stuff. The guy has everything you need to win with. Why trade it away? Yes, you may end up overpaying him at 36 and 37, but you're getting him for below market value right now.
You need players in their 30's to win Cups.
Give it a rest, already...

If Van wants Colton
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Prime_Jimbo</b></div><div>There is no way both of those guys get shipped in a two for one. I agree if Van is going to continue to play Pod 8 mins a night and give him no opportunities, then why keep him over adding someone like Colton to play 3C? But not for both.</div></div>
With the offers Tampa gets for him, I don't think you'll get him for Podz straight up, unless the Bolts REALLY like him. I think Podz' development really suffered in the K, and I'm not sure I see him even reaching Colton's level now, even with the ice time. My only real concern with Colton is he's not right handed.
But Colton fits a need, if the playoffs are where they want to be next year, IMO you make the deal for the player you know can fill a role on your team rather than waiting on the potential of B prospects.
