I disagree on the point about Girard's pay. I think 5 mil is a totally fair number for him, not too far either way. Though, that's not too relevant to the discussion here either imo. Girard doesn't make much sense for SJ as a return because like OP said, he's in his prime rn. Obviously team's don't really wanna go out and field a crap roster or anything, but Girard being the return for 2 of the more valuable trade pieces SJ has doesn't really fit cause that contract will be at the end and Girard may be starting to decline by the point they're competitive again.

I think SJ would be very smart to look for a Barabanov trade considering he's nearing 30 and has a contract that a contender will likely value. Likely not in the long term plans, and same for Sturm to a lesser extent. Neither guy will bring back a crazy good return, but they should be leveraging them for near NHL ready prospects or picks I think, rather than a player like Girard that may not even end up as part of SJ's team once they come out of the rebuild.
