Glendening isn't the type of dead weight I would want to cut, he's actually one of the best in the league for what he does. Great work ethic, penalty killer, he's basically elite as far as bottom six players go. He's on a great contract, and he's a hometown kid with a great story of how he got here. That to me is worth a lot. That being said, I don't know how even I could turn down a 2nd for him. He wouldn't be my first person I look to trade, he's not part of the problem, let's just say that. That being said, I doubt we would get a 2nd for him. A 3rd is more realistic I think, and for that it's not worth it to me. I would be happy to move Helm for a 3rd, even retaining his 50%, and I think it's possible that it actually happens. I don't like the Nielsen trade, though. Don't get me wrong, Nielsen is horrible and I want him gone just as much as the next guy, but in no way is it worth it to trade away a 2nd and a 3rd just to get rid of him. His contract is horrible but isn't really an issue right now, and picks are our top priority. I would rather just buy him out in the summer then trade away two high picks. I actually don't hate the signings. I think the RFA ones are solid and would be happy with all those. I think if we could get Mantha and Bert down to around $5.5M or lower that would be a win, but I think these are fair. I think Lindstrom is a solid 3rd pairing guy to slot in behind Hronek and Seider instead of signing DeMelo. It would be a super young blue line, but we're a young team. I'm not a big Galchenyuk fan and I doubt he would want to come here, but if we get Lafreniere or anywhere in the top three that's his spot gone anyway. I really like the Greiss signing, I've been a fan of that all year. As I said, I would rather buyout Nielsen, then we can just sit Abby in the pressbox for the rest of his deal. As the cap increases it will be more manageable, and at least Abby is a great guy off the ice who does a lot for the community and is a homegrown guy, which is more than we can say for Nielsen. He's not an NHL player, but Nielsen is horrible too, and given the choice to buyout Nielsen or Abby, Nielsen is gone 10/10 times for me. Overall very solid, one of the better ones ive seen on here imo.

Glendening isn't necessarily dead weight in this scenario. He would be traded to gain a 2nd a clear a roster spot for a young guy. The dead weight here was Abdelkader, Helm, and Nielsen, and also not signing the useless RFAs.

I elected to buyout Abdelkader over Nielsen because I never liked him. But I guess whichever one is more tradeable you keep and the other you buyout.

Also I don't think Lindstrom is NHL capable at this time.

I wouldn't mind seeing Lindstrom spend another year in the American league, but I don't think he's looked bad by any means this year so far. As I said I would prefer not to move Glendening, but for a 2nd I would have to. I would like to see us move on from Helm, AA, and Nielsen to get those open roster spots. You also can't count Ehn out for that 4th line center spot, either.

I think he was referring to how insanely idiotic it would be to retain salary for guys that have term left, because it is... especially for modest returns.

We'll need better goalies with AA and Galchenyuk on the same line. As much as Nielsen has been tough to watch, grinding out his contract is worth keeping a 2nd and 3rd - we won't be competitive during his contract anyway. No real roster room is being made either - just scratch Abby and Nielsen instead of Turgeon and Hirose.
