Alex Holtz averaged 7.94 shots/60 this year 5v5. That ranked 89th among all forwards in the league, and would rank him 3rd among bruins forwards. And it was even higher when NJD still had bottom 6 depth and he played with competent linemates

Shooting %s where a guy who’s been a mid shooter his entire career randomly shoots 20% are generally outliers.
A guy who’s biggest strength throughout his entire career is his incredible shot shooting at a high rate is predictable
He didn’t mention %s either. He said talent. Holtz is an always has been a sniper

Love it. Maybe we get Dumolin involved in the trade somehow as a stopgap.

This is really bad.
I could maybe get moves for the sake of moves. But you’ve arguably made the team worse while getting rid of a top 10 pick.
Bahl, Marino to Hague, Perbix is a downgrade.
Hill is good but 5 mill is an expensive rental.
You could do as good or better simply via UFA and keep the picks

And it’s not magic. It’s Jacob Markstrom posting a 0.870 since then and losing the most valuable year he had.

Take Markstrom out if you want I don’t particularly care, but unretained you can have a 2nd or so, and even then I’d rather target Filip Gustafsson.

Talking To Kings Exec
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FoxYou727</b></div><div>Agreed I'd be PISSED too. Still with how good Byfield is, if LA isn't willing to give him a long term contract and not give him more than 7 I think every GM outside of <em>maybe</em> 3/5 teams should offersheet him</div></div>
100%. If there is any chance to get a player like Quinton Byfield at his age you jump on it.
But regardless of the kings cap troubles, I just can't see a scenario where they don't get byfield extended.
You deal with a cap crunch by taking hits on the secondary pieces. You don't let the most valuable asset you have walk out the door over a couple million dollars.
I'd trade any of Fiala, Gavrikov, Anderson, Doughty, PLD, Danault, Moore, Kempe for literally future considerations before I let Byfield leave.

Byfield is too good a player to be worth offer sheeting imo. I'd be pissed if an offer sheet came as LAK but I wouldn't think twice about not matching until that 4 1sts tier gets hit.
I also think they'd be stupid to let Byfield go unsigned that long anyway. You get Byfield done asap, and then figure out what you have to spend around him based off that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rajvinder</b></div><div>Byfield contract was just to fill out the roster. Complete guess on my part without looking at the details.
Re roster, most teams run a 21/22 team roster but I also didn't do the work to get Marner down to $3.7M which is what he said they were looking at internally. At that cap hit he seemed to see Byfield or Clarke as the primary piece of the return. Clarke being more expendable.</div></div>
Name the teams who ran a 21 man roster this past season. Name them.

Byfield 8 years should be a priority ASAP. Anything under 9 mill you sign in a heartbeat imo. You bridge Byfield and I wouldn't be shocked you're looking at 13 mill AAV by the time his next contract rolls around

Also 4 year deal for Byfield would be the stupidest possible thing. Walks him straight to UFA

2.1 and then you buy a guy 50% retained at the deadline and pay like 500k in real salary using accrued space and have no carryover. And also with injuries eating up space. Like this year we started with 2 mill in space. And still ended up with 1.5 mill in carryover.
Or if you want, use the cap to buy more term on Mercer

Yeah I also didn't think they were meaningful parts of an NHL teams future. Same with Vlasic at this point
Is Ferraro on the trade market or is he a long term piece for SJS?
If not you'd have Ferraro, Shakir, Bahl, Thrun and would be decently set at LD. Would still need RD. How is thrun viewed?

Shakir spent most of last year in the AHL, but I would be surprised if he wasn't a full time NHLer next year. Add Ferarro and some combination of Vlasic/Rutta/Burroughs, the Sharks are pretty full on LD at the moment.
They would definitely be open to moving Sturm, but at this point they are going to want to get back a top 4 LD prospect or a middle 6 winger. They aren't going to be very interestiedin moving their 2024 1st/2nd rounders, either.</div></div>
Yeah I was definitely thinking "yeah this seems a bit unrealistic" as I clicked submit.
Are Burroughs and Rutta not RHD?

I may be off on the Sharks trade in that they may not need an LD.
It really depends on how thrun is viewed and if Shakir is ready. I'm assuming vlasic is basically a LTIR at this point.

Yes. Ullmark.
You're right, goalies do age differently. The decline in the mid 30s is incredibly common. And the fall off in the mid 30s is usually abrupt, sudden, and large.

Fixing Flaws v2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cpascale</b></div><div>Luke can actually play both sides and Zadorov can play both as well. Marino is a natural RD and we have so many that one of them is going to get squeezed out. Ya in hindsight that Nemo and Siegs pair is pretty bad. I'd switch things up and put Luke with Dougie, Siegs with Zadorov, and Nemo with Samuelsson. The Palat trade is going to suck regardless since we're going to have to pair a haul to get rid of that contract. Glass is a former 6th overall pick, only 25, is a good 3C, and can definitely get better in the right system barring who the new coach is. And yes Monahan is slow but is a decent goal scorer despite it being mostly on the PP. Maybe switch him and Drouin on the 1st and 3rd and it'll work better.</div></div>
Except we don't. We have 3 currently NHL capable RD. Luke looked much worse on the right side.
In this scenario you have Luke, Siegs, Hatakka, Samuelsson, Zadorov, Vilen as LD
and Dougie, Nemec, and Casey as RD.
Monahan isn't particularly good offensively or defensively at even strength. He is too slow to be a good fit for NJDs system.
Simply keep Palat. He is an effective hockey player and we have no cap issues next year

Palat trade is UGLY.
Luke Hughes is an LD. If you're getting an LD like zadorov just keep Marino
Nemec-Siegenthaler do NOT work together. At all.
Monahan is far too slow to play on Jack's wing, bad idea. He's a PP specialist and NJD is a team that has a full PP1

God I love when every fanbase thinks their goalie is god's gift to hockey.
23 year old goalie who have been disastrous at the NHL level do not receive top 14 picks.

Wallstedt, Askarov
