Traded Geekie and let Heinen walk because I would have to think the team wants guys like Merk and Lysell to be on the big league roster this year, especially Lysell. If those two guys in particular return probably makes it hard for the younger guys to find a place. I could see Merk and Lysell rotating in and out of the lineup perhaps, each playing a few games at a time.
I signed Sam Gagner because I like Sam Gagner, and also because I think he's the exact type of veteran player that can be on the edge of your roster for at or very close to the minimum salary and fill in for an injury or for a rest day, basically what he does now for the Oilers. It doesn't have to specifically be SG, I just like him so I made it him.
I have no idea what Dillon's value is in FA, and unlike Lindholm, DeBrusk, or Swayman, I couldn't find any articles or mentions of a contract projection for him. I basically gave him a slight raise on his current deal with term that brings him to just after 35, but this could be wildly off-base and its the contract I have easily the least confidence in it being a realistic signing amount. As for his role with the team, I like Wotherspoon's game from what Ive seen from him, but I have some concerns about him being in the Top 6, starting lineup full time. I think he's the perfect spot-starter or 7D, so I brought in a veteran that can play on the bottom pair to beef up the Top 6 and add some more depth to the D corps.
I know Lindholm isn't a true 1C at this point, but the team still really needs centers and he's the best true center in FA, so I'd have to think we will be hard after him, and if he were to sign here he becomes the best center on the team basically instantly. Zacha has shown at least to me that he isn't a center, so I moved him to the wing, while I think Coyle is capable of being a center so he sticks at 2C.
The team is slightly over the cap how Ive positioned it, but that's just because I have a 5th line and 4th pair on the roster to show who I'd have as the top alternates or reserves. If you remove those 5 guys the regular 20 man roster is comfortably under the cap.
I don't think that Los Angeles wants a $2 million bottom-6 winger, but Anaheim probably would (especially a RW), and with three third-rounders this June, probably offer you their 2024 fourth.
I like what you did here. My observations would be;
1) I think DeBrusk will be cheaper. I’m thinking 5 years around 5-6M.
2) I don’t think trading GEEKIE is a great idea. I really think he has a lot of potential and would not wanna see him leave. I understand you want to make room for some young guys but they’ll find time with the big club with injuries. Just like how they got Beecher and LOHREI up this year.
2. At the beginning of the year, I think most Bruins fans would have been happy that Lindholm made it to FA. I believe he is going to be a Bruin. Just curious about the price
3. I doubt they bring in a 3.5M free agent defender.
