<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bluspy88</b></div><div>Hey, you're the one calling yourself a bubble playoff team. I myself see LA as a solid number 3 behind Calgary and Edmonton. I'd think I'm flattering you. I think a lot of what you're saying is true but its also proving my point. Yes, Vilardi is regarded higher than Smilanic. But is Vilardi going gangbusters right now? No. And regarding Walker, I think its just a numbers game, plus fair or not, major injuries knock a player's value down a peg or two. I honestly included Walker because of several articles I read about LA-Sanheim trades and how Walker is the odd man out on the blue line on the right side. Its ok to have a good player that you trade for an also good player where you have more organizational needs. And yeah, Dallas just did that trade so I think my overall point is I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, but we know GMs pay up. And to your last point, yes they got to the playoffs. And then they got ran around by the Oilers. That's not disrespect from me, that's just what happened because there are some young players learning. But, I personally think that every team and every GM doesn't want to just "make it" to the playoffs. They want to win. Let me put it to you this way: would you rather the Kings did not make this trade, maybe made more minor/"bargain bin" trades, and got bounced in Round 1 again. Or, would you rather the Kings make this trade, and perhaps others, and say won at least Round 1 if not also Round 2, and then extend Sanheim say 5.5x5 (give or take 750k). I think a beefed up Kings squad could beat Edmonton in a rematch. I think they could beat the Blues, the Wild, Vegas, Nashville, Dallas. I really see Calgary and Colorado being too much to go past now. At some point, just "making it" isn't enough for the GM and the team. They want to win.

Your team has the benefit of a few things: Veteran players from the last core still playing well (Kopitar, Doughty, even Quick last year), "young veterans" who have established themselves (Kempe, Iafallo, Danault, Petersen, Arvidsson), young players who are either stars or still have potentially crazy upside (Fiala, Anderson, Bjornfot, Durzi, Byfield, Kaliyev, Vilardi), and good prospects that could step in soon OR be used to help you now in a trade (Turcotte, Faber, Kupari, JAD, Spence, ****emo, Clarke). Maybe I'm just very high on them, but I think they can afford to sacrifice what at the end of the day is a small part of those riches to maybe go on a run while you have these guys in your lineup that are in their prime or still playing at elite levels for now.</div></div>

I think the Kings will be in a dogfight with four or five teams. Maybe if they've separated from the pack by the TDL, Blake will want to take a swing. But he's hardly proven to be someone who "pays up". Even the Fiala move's return was less than what Wild fans were expecting. Blake has proven he's shrewd and patient. If he wasn't, Chychrun would already be an LA King (who I would much rather the Kings spend the assets you've asked for on).

As far as the Vilardi situation, it's difficult to explain it to fans on here who don't follow the Kings and Reign very closely. The frustrating part of being an LA Kings fan is that the organization has this painfully slow thought process when it comes to how they develop their prospects. Vilardi was switched to the wing last season in Ontario, which is why he was in the AHL for so long. Once he was called back up, he was placed on a rookie line and told to stay above the puck and not make any mistakes. However, the fact that he played in every game down the stretch run to the playoffs, as LA was trying to fend off Vegas and solidify their position in the playoffs, shows how much they Kings want him to succeed. And he did. As Todd gets more confidence in them, the younger guys like Gabe, Quinton, and Arthur will be let loose a little bit more. But currently Gabe's points don't do justification to his standing with the club. They hold Gabe in very high regards.

I'd hardly call a 7 game series "getting ran around". The Oilers were the better team, for sure. But the Kings were without Drew Doughty and Viktor Arvidsson. The additions the Kings made this off-season with Fiala and assuming that the Kings stay healthy, I think LA could give Edmonton a run for their money even without Sanheim. As far as "wanting to win", you're not wrong. But the Kings know they're still building up their new core. As I said above, Blake has been nothing if not patient and meticulous. He won't blow valuable assets to chase something that he doesn't believe the team is ready for yet. At least, I don't think so. In the end, just because they have the "riches" doesn't mean Blake needs to sell low on any of our pieces.

And no worries, I'm not taking this as any sort of attack on my intelligence, just a fun conversation.
