Description
Canucks deal their top 2 UFA-to-be's before the season starts to a contender for a good return in picks and a young skilled player. Then sign Franson (3yrs) and Ehrhoff (1yr) to fill out the top 4 D. They've picked up three future assets, improved the blueline overall and are letting the young forwards get a chance to compete for spots with the big club. Can still move UFA's Prust, Ehrhoff, Weber and Bartkowski for picks at the deadline if they're out of it. Win/win/win.

Yeah, probably a bit of an overpayment considering he's still out there, but overpaying is how Jimbo rolls! I'd be more concerned about the term of the deal. I think if they could keep it to 3 years it would be good so it expires the same year as the Sedin's.

Would cash conscious Nashville want Vrbata & Hambuis salaries, plus surrendering three prospects. Doubtful. Nashville has a strong defence now. If they needed another defender they should sign a free agent like Ehrhoff and keep their picks.
