(MIN/PIT) - Zucker for Galchenyuk, Addison, 2020 1st round pick
this was a ridiculous level of overpay, Galchenyuk is worth probably a 4th or 5th, so its basically a 1st, 4th, and top prospect for a good but not great player who is signed for more than he is worth.
A 2nd plus a different prospect would have been fair.

THIS is what The Penguins NEED to do and Should do - Read all or dont comment
im not sure if I would do the deal to get Greene, for reasons stated above, DeSmith is critical goalie depth for after this season. But for this season alone getting Greene could really help with all the injuries to the defense.
I would love for the Rakkell deal to happen but I don't think Anaheim really wants to trade him. He is exactly what the pens need and the deal to get him in this scenario would be reasonable but from what I have heard the duck want to hang on to him unfortunately.
I could see the other two legitimately happening though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>If you scroll to the earlier comments, I said Kessel had so many points because he was playing with Malkin and Crosby while Domi was by himself. I was then told that Kessel is still a way better player than Domi without those players.</div></div>
system matters a lot, even when you aren't actively playing on a line with Malkin and Crosby(which at his most arguably most effective time, Phil was playing with Bonino and Hagelin, not Sid or Geno) that doesn't mean you don't benefit from a style a team as a whole plays.

It just almost seems inevitable up to this point lmaoo</div></div>
yeah the west has been pretty wide open for first half of year, some struggling teams are still in it. Only teams way out of it are the kings along with San Jose and Ducks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jimmmyg</b></div><div>I am not so sure it would be utter robbery, don't forget Zucker is under contract at a comfortable cap hit. If he can get/stay healthy, he is well worth Hallander and our 1st. Not so sure Minnesota would pick Hallander out of the bunch, though. Guerin knows our prospects as good as anyone and is probably asking for Addison which is why the deal has never come to fruition. GMJR doesn't strike me as a guy would nix a deal over worrying about next years cap, so I am assuming Billy G is just asking for our prospects which is a bit too rich right now.</div></div>
Zucker is a bit overpaid, other than this year he hasn't had too bad of a injury history so longer term that isn't the bigger worry. No way I would do a first plus hallander without retention on Zucker, which I know the wild would not do. I don't think GMJR is worried about the cap hit, I think the reason Zucker hasn't gone anywhere(penguins or elsewhere) is cause the wild are still somewhat in the race, if they fall out he might get moved but if they stay in it he might not get traded at all.

Kessel did go to an anemic offense to be fair, but yes he hasn't been that good for Arizona, now why don't you compare their numbers last year?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>If the Wild trade both Brodin and Zucker together, it would be a fatal mistake to not get a highly talented young center that projects to be a mainstay in a team's top 6. Penguins don't have a guy like that. Zucker probably could be had for Hallander, a 1st, and possibly a slight add, so that means the Wild are essentially trading Brodin for Galchenyuk, Johnson, and a 2nd which would be robbery by the Penguins.</div></div>
Zucker for hallander a 1st and more would be utter robbery by the wild, so one robbery followed by other robbery. (not to mention the person including this also threw POJ in). I think pens should say no.

don't think the penguins should be keen on acquiring two depth rentals for two cost controlled pieces with the only difference being one to two dozen spots in the draft. I don't necessarily think they are bad targets, they offer good depth(and we know sheary had some chemistry with Crosby in the past) but trading Bjugstad opens another hold that would need to be filled, and if Murray is moved this summer DeSmith would be the backup next year.

a bit much, can lower the cost and not retain on Kreider, pens don't need the retention(as a result of LTIR injuries). 1st plus a lower prospect is more reasonable.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Paul13</b></div><div>Sure keep Chucky Wild will take Hallander and a 1st for Zucker.
Wild will not be retaining any salary. If he were overpaid he wouldn't have as much trade interest. So I'm guessing your issue is more about wanting Pens to acquire a player you like better, which is fine we all have our favorites, but just say that. If he hadn't broken his leg this year he was on pace for 60 points this year which puts his actual yearly value close to 6 mil a year so at 5.5 mil he falls into the value category.</div></div>
and other years he has had points in the 40s, so by your math he would have only been worth 4.5million which means he is actually indeed overpaid by a million...
He is in trade talks cause he is a good player, overpaid or not. Albeit overhyped in some circles. let another team overpay and give up a first and high prospect but he is not the level of player that would warrant that level of trade unless salary is retained.

I include him in the deal because I think the pens try to do right by guys in this type of situation. classy team and all that</div></div>
I think they do trade him at some point if they acquire a new LW for that reason, some team will take the low risk gamble of throwing a mid or late round pick to get him and see what he does for a couple months. Its unfortunate did not work out better for him with the penguins, like you said from what I have heard is that he has worked hard and everything just not a fit for whatever reason.

he is not a good value, he is overpaid, if Minnesota retained a 1.5million I would give up a first and good prospect
The third shouldn't be included and The pens don't even need to dump Galchenyuk because of LTIR they actually have more cap space than usual. So Minnesota doesn't need to take him back in the deal unless they actually want him(which they might if they need a LW to plugin to the lineup, but that wouldn't be considered a dump cause he would have a small value in that scenario)

unfortunately the earliest he could possibly be back is around conference finals, so likely not realistic to expect him back even if the pens make it to the cup finals.

Pittsburgh Penguins signed Marcus Pettersson (5 Years / $4,025,175 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brian2016</b></div><div>Not much downside. Compare to Maatta: Pettersson is 2 years younger and already better on both sides of the puck. He signed for 4.94% of the cap while Maatta signed for 5.72% of the cap in 2016.
CGY just signed Rasmus Andersson (also 23 y.o.) long term at 5.58% of the cap. Most people in the hockey universe approved and his contract was approved by more than a 2:1 margin on this site.
Andersson might have the higher ceiling, but I think right now Pettersson is better defensively by a solid margin.
Conclusion: In my opinion, Marcus Pettersson was the best signing of the 3.</div></div>
Maatta was a better player defensively when he got his deal, but comparing this deal to another contract that didn't end up going so well isn't a good sign... although to be fair I think injuries had a big hand in that. Which so far durability is probably the best thing of Pettersson so far. Personally both this deal and the Andersson one weren't very good signings.
