Jarry trade idea
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac555</b></div><div>Canes fans ‘hate’ Jarry for the same reasons that the Pens are trading him. His contract and play…better options in the organization.</div></div>
No lol he's been great this year. Dubas wants to make big changes and his play plus seeing the goalie market can bring that change. He's one of the three reasons (other two being Crosby and Ned) are why the Penguins aren't last overall drafting Celebrini right now.

Deadline
Dubas rejects. Losing Karlsson would require another RD and Chabot plays LD. Karlsson probably also blocks as he wants to play on a contender not a team even worse than PIT.

Would Edmonton do this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yinzer</b></div><div>Yeah, he said they wouldn't move him for a rental, but Smith isn't a rental and obviously getting to move Campbell would be an added incentive.
I understand your points about cap space and I'm not necessarily advocating for this trade. It mostly a thought experiment and an attempt to see how the Penguins might get younger assets quickly.
For the sake of conversation, what would need to change for you to feel like a trade around this premise works for the Penguins? Would it be not retaining anything on Smith? More picks/prospects?</div></div>
This trade imo just straight up shouldn't exist.
The team isn't going full rebuild until the core retire, simple as that. Fans need to stop thinking it will be any other way.
With that, there isn't need to acquire young prospects unless they're turning around and flipping them for NHL players.
Their goal in the summer will be to retool, not hurt their cap space and add prospects.

Opening Night Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yenzer</b></div><div>One of the things that I love about what Dubas has done is add enough depth to create competition. Seems like people are high on Nylander, but he's going to be pushed by Hinostroza and Johnsson, Poulin, and Zohorna. It will be interesting to see Smith and POJ compete, but I think Butcher is a dark horse to win that spot as well. There's also several guys who might be vying for that top six role while Jake is out. This is all so different from last year.
It will also be interesting to see how the PP shakes out. I for one hope they don't take Rakell off the top unit.</div></div>
Yeah there definitely will be a lot of internal competition for bottom 6 spots. I'm interested to see how Poulin does. I hope he wins the spot, but if not then I hope somebody shows something promising, whether that's just some chemistry or play driving.
And as for the PP situation, I agree. I want them to let Letang run his own PP and put Rakell on PP1. I mean just imagine you're the opposing team fending off Sid, Geno, and EK65 for 1:15-30 then you have to deal with Letang, R. Smith, and Rust or whoever on PP2. PP2 might score more than PP1 just because they get the easier matchups. You could even switch it up and roll out PP2 to start lol and let PP1 clean up the scraps if they don't score. We have a lot of good options when it comes to the PP this year.

I don't hate it - I think it would depend on what they do to fill out the rest of the team and who they are able to bring in to replace Guentzel. Pretty sure COL has cap issues though

Because of the cap savings Pittsburg would get, I would say they add. Nothing big, maybe like the jersey third? Something along those lines

Excellent trade proposal, first time seeing it and it makes sense for both teams IMO

Carter to DET
Don't think we should be paying a 1st to dump Carter, or anyone. It's just one more year

Pretty good rebuttal to all these comments, you sold me. But even if values are off on the trades, I still like the players you brought in. Crouse should be a guy the Penguins really go after. I want Compher, Graves and Soucy as well. It will be tough, as Graves and Compher will be VERY popular. I think we have to trade one of Rust or Guenztel this offseason.

Who we Should Keep
So Buffalo pays a very high a price to get 2 exceptionally old players? Where is the incentive to actually do this?

My Dream Deadline
I'm a pens fan. We need to make some changes to the team. But brock is barely a better answer for us than kapanen was. He hasn't had over 25 goals in a season since 2019. He hasn't been remotely close to a ppg since 2021 and even then it was like a .8. He has not played 1 single season without missing games. If we can get him at half price I would be happy but not if it costs more than a 1st rd pick and a cap release like dumo

Pens Should Go After Chychrun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yenzer</b></div><div>I think Dumoulin played 25 minutes because they don't have another option for a top pairing defenseman. Hence the point of this post. They need a top-2 LD like Chychrun really badly. Dumoulin has played better as of late and would likely be much more effective playing more like 15 minutes a night.
As for developing Joseph, I hear you, but Joseph is older than Pettersson was when he first arrived and only a year younger than Makar and Chychrun. Think about that. Joseph is the same age as Makar was last season when he won the Norris and the Conn Smyth. Of course he's can improve, but he's not going to be much better than he is now. 23 is old for a prospect these days. You're talking about trading two bottom six defenseman for a top pairing defenseman. If anything, what I'm offering here is not enough to get the deal done.</div></div>
Your last sentence. It's a 2023 1st, 2024 1st and Pickering at a minimum for non-rental Chychrun who is signed through 24-25. Then you have to figure out the cap. You asked.
