Penguins Soft Rebuild Deadline

EDM probably walks then, no offense to Guentz but that injury at that time destroyed his value.
1st, 2nd and B-prospect for him is fair, though if someone pays more all the power to them.

if Pit wanted to move MP they could get better offers.
NJ alone would give up more for MP than TOR is here.

Trades for Jake
that isn't nearly enough for the penguins to take on that horrible Mikheyev contract. I'm not touching that for a 2nd. VAN doesn't really have the pieces to move it out as it would take a 1st for a team to take that on. The only way I make that trade is if you get a trade like the VAN one above and it needs to be made to make it work.
EDM doesn't have the pieces for a penguins trade. This has been stated multiple times. They are most likely on the bottom of the list of all trades.
The trade with VGK isn't enough to get it done. VGK has better pieces to move.
People keep saying things like VAN won't give that up........ but VAN isn't the only team interested in Guentzel.
The bad part of that for VAN is there are at least 4 other teams in the west interested. EDM, VGK, DAL, COL.
Now you can say EDM doesn't have the pieces. But DAL sure does and so does VGK.
Then you got 4 teams in the east in CAR, FL, NYR, and TOR.
You can say maybe TOR can't afford to keep Jake, but they actually could shedding Domi and Bertuzzi next year. Others say they want to invest in defense but I don't see it as they won't want a defense rental and it's better to solve that long term in FA where they have 8 defensive contracts coming off the book next year.
That's a lot of teams interested in Jake, most have the pieces to get it done. So VAN wanting to low ball it, isn't going to happen.
The penguins will get a good return on the trade. Given sellers always lose in the end because no matter how good the trade is usually prospects and late round picks have to develop into the sure thing they are moving out. But sometimes like OTT EK trade, the seller wins.

TDL Maybe
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>I have seen this a lot. I actually like Mikheyev but he is a big risk and has negative value. Smith is worth a 2nd at the TDL, and Mikheyev probably needs a 3rd to move. So if you included a 2nd, the Pens would consider it.</div></div>
Pens may also want prospects though too. Someone like Raty or Podkolzin could help them out.

Oilers TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>The 3rd would not be enough for Ned with retention. It would be a 2nd.
Guentzel (with retention) would cost Edmonton somewhere in the range of:
Holloway + Bourgault + Broberg + 1st
Add in Ned at 50% and you're looking at a 2nd and a 4th or B+ prospect.</div></div>
Way too much for JG. He’s injured for starters. What I suggested is adequate.
A 2nd for Ned would be fair.

Selling at TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>evelutions2</b></div><div>Canes can’t send both Drury and Ponomarev in a package without getting an equal or better C in return. Remove Drury, and if Guentzel is willing to sign something like 6 years, 7.5ish mil, Canes might add a lesser prospect in replacement of Drury.</div></div>
Guentzel would be Carolinas best winger, you ain’t getting him for free, nor would he sign for that little

6 more years of DUBAS and list of things to expect
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>I'll bite;
1.) Rutherford tried going to toughness route in 2018, it completely destroyed this team. I'd rather outscore the opponent than try to out-muscle them. How is the Reaves signing going Brad?
2.) Karlsson is 81st percentile in xgoals against. He is playing very good defensively. Graves is 57th percentile, not great but passable for 4.5MM and this is his low, he will likely rebound.
3.) Jarry is currently 4th in the NHL in GSAX 5v5. So far so good.
4.) Eller, Acciari, DOC, have all been good signings.
5.) Undersized players can still contribute and be very valuable. I don't get the hate?
6.) Why are you against analytics? It is a great way to understand players in a vacuum but it does disregard emotions (which can be important)
7.) This might be valid. I can't explain why this team isn't winning. They look like Edmonton before the Oilers broke out. There might be too many cooks in the kitchen but that is extremely speculative.
Honestly I'm ok with what is going on. The Pens have 3 cups that I recall watching and 5 in my lifetime. That's more than I can say for basically every other franchise.</div></div>

Should also mention before Dubas you only made the playoffs 2 out of 12 years and hadn't made it to the 2nd round since 2004. Dubas left his successor with a string of 5 straight playoff qualifications and a team that made the 2nd round last year. There is no way you can say Dubas didn't leave the Leafs better than he found them...

2025 Canucks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>I hear what you're saying but there are two factors here.
1.) The Canucks are on pace for 110 points after 83 last year. That's a difference of nearly 30 points. That kind of jump is insane. It means either A.) This is a lightning in a bottle season and Van should go ALL IN on this year or B.) This is who they truly are and they don't need a full cupboard of prospects.
2.) The Canucks have 3 top 60 prospects. Losing 1, a 1st, and a good young NHL player won't obliterate their future.
Their best player is 25 and has a good lot of players around him on top of a very good farm. A 1st, Hoglander and Lekkerimaki is a steep price but well worth a Stanley Cup.
Go for it while you have the chance, next year isn't a given.
Let me ask a question, if it guaranteed a Cup win, would you trade the above for Guentzel?</div></div>
Well, ya. I mean a cup would be a reason to. But nobody can guarantee that.
You are right, the breakout this season was unexpected. I'm not sold this is truly who they are but could be in a year or two. Joshua, Blueger, Lafferty are putting up career years. That wasn't expected production and has been a big difference.
Maybe they should ride the hot hand but after the Lindholm trade, they need to sort out the top 6 before adding another player. He hasn't even integrated in a meaningful way yet.
A big concern is the cap. They need Lekkerimaki to step to join the team with all these big contracts due.
What will be ironic after this, is if Vegas goes for Guentzel and ends up on Stone's line lol

Again, he would be salary and a guy who can fill in for the Pens. The main pieces would be the prospect and 1st. Would I prefer Hoglander, yes. But if they offered Lekkerimaki with Mikheyev and a 1st, the Pens would accept.</div></div>
no, Mikheyev coming back would be negative for the team straight up.
He's played with Pettersson the past two seasons mostly and if not it was horvat
He'll be the same age as Jake next season.
