<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Tj_gm</b></div><div>Freddy isn’t going on LTIR. This is a waste of time</div></div>
I read your post description and that's not how LTIR works. Freddy has sat out 19 days and it's 5 days until the trade deadline. In the morning of the trade deadline he will be put on LTIR the reason why he hasn't be on LTIR already because the Leafs have been accruing cap space by letting him sit while not being on IR. LTIR only give you cap space if you are close to the cap with Freddy on LTIR before the trade deadline the Leafs would not be close enough to the cap for the LTIR to benefit them.
If you check the Panthers cap page you will see that Ekblad is not on LTIR and he won't be placed on LTIR. The reason being is that the Panthers are not close enough to the cap for putting Ekblad on LTIR to give them cap space. In fact if there were to put him on the LTIR they will lose cap space putting them at a disadvantage.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>digitalbath</b></div><div>But hell be back before playoffs begin so what do you do with the cap then? I understand just hanging on to him and not giving up any assets but how do you get help in other areas with no money?</div></div>
He's probably healthy to play today but for cap implications and piss poor performance I think that's why he is being locked away. So even if he would be back before the playoffs the leafs can afford to sit on him... God I hate how the NHL Salary cap works

That's what I thought as much as I want to hold on to a Hirvonen or a Niemela I would be willing to replace Loponen if it meant getting Gio

We don't need a 27 yeat old prospect of a position we have better at, 1 players that is actually kinda worse(Gio and Dermott)and picks that won't be NHL players for a few years if at all. Absolutely fair, but if you hold on to Gio and he regresses next year will this return even be on the table for a 38 year old ufa?

I like your logic for trading Bernier to the Leafs but I think we would rather hold on to Anderson put him on LTIR on the trade deadline day for the cap space

Trading away leafs futures how? A second round draft pick, Johnnson, and Bracco. If the organization cannot figure out how to produce futures without those players I am worried.

If you want to trade Johnsson for Martinez, the Kings would listen.</div></div>
Your username is tkecanuck341 but it really should be Rob Blake Burner. Why would the Kings trade Martinez somewhere when a team is offering them a solid top 9 winger. They absolutely could hold on to Clifford for locker room presence but since they are clearly tanking they want to optimize their value from each trade they make.
Acquiring a top 6 forward and a roster filler in Cody Ceci in exchange for an expiring free agent and a ohl Defenseman... The Eye test looks terrible but long term results will find both the Kings and Leafs

Because Dubas wouldn't have picked him in the 2018 draft for no reason. Since his stock has depreciated since the original trade I think it is the optimal time to require him.

You're absolutely right why are the Leafs giving up marginal futures for proven and consistent playoff performers.
Especially Tyson Barrie who they will definitely resign in the off season

Hopefully the Leafs lineup for game 1 in 2019-20
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonesryan</b></div><div>they won't go into the season with both Sandin and Liljegren in the lineup. At best, 1 of them makes it. Most likely both in the AHL. Rosen is ahead of Sandin, he's gonna start on the bottom pair almost guaranteed. That buyout trade/sign thing with Marleau isn't happening. They'll either keep him at full price or he's retiring. They're gonna need to sign at least 2 dman to start next season as depth and go from there</div></div>
Maybe they won't start the season on the team but I think they will make the team before the end of the season. Why wouldn't the Sens do the Marleau Buyout I know I'm in a minority that thinks it would happen but I like to hear the other side of the argument anyways. And which to d-man do you the Leafs could realistically sign under the cap they would have?

Lets wind this rebuild up
I think the Nyquist and Ho Sang trades are not only perfect but completely realistic. Boston might not give up both of the draft picks and Lou might not want to retain salary but Boston moving on from Senyshyn is very likely. The other trades are more maybes but if the other teams are willing this is definitely doable rebuild.
