Description
Plan: Don't re-sign Kronwall (maybe 1yr 1m), not Bouwmeester either. Split starts between Bernier and Allen and see if that helps either of or both of them.

Next year: See if you can retain on Nielsen, Green and/or Dekeyser and ship them, hopefully get a first back somehow. This might be when the Wpg deal happens if they realize they can't sign Trouba. Fire Ericsson into the sun. Don't sign UFA's to multi-year deals, the only ones worth signing to that won't sign in Detroit at this point.

Take a few swings at hit or miss prospects. Josh Ho-Sang is an example of that, maybe Lou wouldn't bite but it's more conceptual.
Taking on Backes would potentially not hurt that much since Zadina will want a contract around the same point Backes expires.
Transactions
1.
DET
  1. Allen, Jake
  2. Bouwmeester, Jay
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2020 (STL)
Détails additionnels:
Blues get a much needed goalie swap and exchange a 1 and a 3 year deal for the same back
STL
  1. Helm, Darren
  2. Howard, Jimmy (2 500 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Detroit takes on what looks to be the 2 worse contracts for a cost
2.
DET
  1. Hanzal, Martin
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2019 (DAL)
Détails additionnels:
Get's Dallas out of this deal and a pp-specialist for the playoffs
3.
DET
  1. Senyshyn, Zach
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2019 (BOS)
  3. Choix de 5e ronde en 2020 (BOS)
4.
DET
  1. Roslovic, Jack
  2. Trouba, Jacob
Détails additionnels:
Sign to a 7m X 8 year deal or so
WPG
  1. Athanasiou, Andreas
  2. Daley, Trevor (1 500 000 $ retained)
  3. Jensen, Nick
  4. Choix de 2e ronde en 2019 (BOS)
Détails additionnels:
Now this may seem werid but Trouba doesn't seem to see a long term future in Wpg and wants to go home. One could argue Det could sign him in the off-season, but he's still restricted. This gets Wpg some assets back, and Detroit don't risk missing out on a guy that probably wants to play for them.

Wpg gets a new bottom pair and a 3C for a decent prize, and gives back a D-man that don't want to stay and a prospect / fringe NHLer
5.
NYI
  1. Abdelkader, Justin (1 000 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Lou is dumb
6.
DET
  1. Backes, David
  2. Choix de 1e ronde en 2019 (BOS)
  3. Choix de 4e ronde en 2019 (NYR)
Détails additionnels:
Boston dumps Backes at the draft (if his NMC is relieved at that point) by moving down from a late first to an early second and a 4th. They're NOT giving up a first, they're moving down presumably 10 spots or so along with the 4th.
BOS
  1. Puempel, Matt
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2019 (DET)

I think the Nyquist and Ho Sang trades are not only perfect but completely realistic. Boston might not give up both of the draft picks and Lou might not want to retain salary but Boston moving on from Senyshyn is very likely. The other trades are more maybes but if the other teams are willing this is definitely doable rebuild.

I thought you did a great job of explaining the moves you made and why you made them. I tried to do the same. I don’t think your moves are wrong or bad. I’m just offering a different view. I’m not trying to be mean here if I come off that way I’m sorry in advance.

I don't think Detroit is anywhere near that point in the rebuild. Detroit spent years buying at the deadline trading away prospects and draft picks. At the end of that it was just to make the playoffs and keep the streak alive. We've started to rebuild our prospect pool but I think we need another year or two of lottery picks before we start making a lot of trades to fill in the gaps.

I'm pretty sure that Kronwall retires at the end of the season.
.
Why are we acquiring Bouwmeester? If it’s for cap room ok. He's 35 and probably will be retired by the time we start making the playoffs again and we aren't going to the playoffs this year so no need for a rental. With Allen I think he's over paid, but most people will probably say his salary fair or the right amount. So the only reason I have not wanting him in Detroit is I just don't like him and that doesn't mean squat. Jimmy Howard being traded is very likely. I’m not sure about Helm he is defiantly over paid with modified ntc. If a team takes him I’d be happy to drive him to the airport.

We traded Vanek season before last for a 3rd round pick. If taking Hanzal is the reason why 2rd pick instead if a 3rd
give us the 3rd and keep Hanzel. if it’s because you really need cap space the toss a good prospect or change or another pick.

Not sure if Boston would approve but the first Boston trade looks good to me. it’s very likely that Nyquist is traded.

Trouba will sign a 2 year deal because he wants to be a UFA and choose where he goes. A lot of people on here think it will be Detroit but I have no idea. But 2 years puts us at the end of the rebuild. Detroit isn’t going to trade AA the reason they were upset with him in the past was his lack of defensive play. Now he’s playing very well in the d-zone and still producing offensively.

The islanders aren’t trading Ho-sang for a over paid bottom 6 forward.

I don’t see Boston doing this trade and thats fine because I want nothing to do with Backes he’s too old and expensive for what Detroit is trying to do.

I just think these are the type of moves this team should make. The Trouba one might be a stretch, and I have no insight into that whatsoever, but they're not going anywhere with this, so might as well ship everything you can and take on bad salary for assets

Yeah Bouwmeester and Allen are dumps from Stl that still allows Det to dump Helm (hopefully) and get a 2nd as a return for Howard. It's just to even out salary basically.
I don't know about Ho-Sang though, he's 22 now, and when you're trading for Matt Martin and signing Komarov for 3 mil I don't think you mind Abdelkader at the same cost. I would never do it as the Islanders obviously, but Lou is a dinosaur, so it might just work.
Hanzal is for one more year after this one - With Bouw, Kronwall hanging em and the cap rising I think the upgrade in pick could be worth the salary. Same with Backes but one extra year, this is essentially saying that instead of signing FA's and actually spending money, you're taking on bad contracts over 1-2 years for assets. I'm just think taking these contracts on increase the value you get back from the teams you are trading with, just like when Detroit sent Datsyuk's contract to Arizona. So yeah, it's not because I think any of the old players are good, I just tried to balance out salary and gain assets back

I think we are a couple of years out and only Allen and Backes have 3 years left so at about the time we are ready to compete that extra salary will be coming off giving Detroit an influx of cap space at the right time. Now it makes a lot more sense. Thanks.

You know why he's still in the AHL? It's because of PULJUJÄRVI thrown in way too early.

Maybe, but there's other stuff holding Pulju back. Also when he was drafted many believed him to be a big contributor on the Laine + Aho line. In hindsight we know he was probably getting a lot of free points there
