<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingSalming21</b></div><div>I know it was a down year for most of the forwards, but they didn't have a player with 60 points last season. I was wondering if maybe the Sabres might soon feel a cap crunch like Toronto's, only on the blueline. It's hard to fit three legit #1 D-man in the cap. Forgetting all that, do you think it would be a fair trade if it fit both club's needs?</div></div>
Byram isn't and likely won't become a legit #1 D so no, I don't envision they'll have a problem with having too many 1D. As far as value goes, likely not. High-end Dmen generally hold the highest individual asset value and, while his potential hasn't yet fully manifested, I don't imagine that Power has lost the cache he had coming into the league.

You're expecting too much out of all those, except maybe the Campbell trade. However, even with that Campbell trade, I'd rather just buy him out.

Well, I won't argue too much in that case, but there are some WILD takes in there.
Zucker getting 5.4 * 3
Gustafsson getting 5 *3
Debrusk getting 6 * 5
Trenin getting 3.3 * 3
Monahan only getting 2.9 * 3
Even if the numbers are based on predictions from January, that's a lot of cause to take their numbers with a big helping of salt.

Kane Tavares Carrier Blueger
I'm quite certain that Carrier will get a better offer than that. Likely upwards of 3.5 to 3.75mil with some term (4-5 years) if I were to guess. Could be wrong but he was pretty in-demand around the deadline which suggests he'll have suitors.

Unrealistic Marner trade proposals
The most confusing part of this is how disparate the value of the returns are. On the one hand, you have CLB giving up a veritable ****load in Werenski, Sillinger, AND their 1st. On the other, you have CHI giving up two middling vets and Tampa's 1st OR PHI sending a massive cap dump, Cates and their 1st. Werenski alone is worth more than both of those pacakges, let alone adding Sillinger and their 1st.
I don't claim to know what Marner would return in a trade as there are so many moving parts, but you at least ought to do better at maintaining internal consistency.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>Interesting, some good points. I totally agree about needing a different skill set on defense. They also need grit practically everywhere, I'm not a fan of just throwing one or two guys on the 4th line or bottom pair to do it, I would invest real assets on finding grit with talent to play all over the roster. One sore spot with the op roster is center, neither Thompson or cozens are good defensively (still hopeful cozens gets there), and kulich is not the guy to pick up the slack as the 3c. If the Sabres are determined to roll Thompson and cozens out at center, they need a vet 3c that can cover d zone starts, pk, and win draws. The Skinner problem is complicated by his ntc, and his desire to play close to his toronto home, but I agree that it's time to move on.</div></div>
My initial aim was to sign Henrique for 2 years but he was a bit too expensive while Skinner is still on the roster. If they can find a taker for Skinner @ 4.5mil, then I think that's the way to go. Provides a very competent pair of vets on the 3rd line for rookies to step into the NHL alongside.
JJP Thompson Tuch
Benson Cozens Quinn
Kulich* Henrique Amadio
Maybe Rosen, Ostlund or Savoie takes that spot instead but the point is that it's for one of them.

Okay, duly noted. Thanks for the input! My choice on Markstrom was because I had a hard time sussing out what kind of value he'd return as there seems to be some heavily split opinions around CF.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>My idea here is Montour gets offers for 3-5 years only by contenders and with Celebrini a huge amount of cap
Space and securing the long term deal he wants plus joining a team with a top 5 prospect pool that he could sign just like Hamilton did with NJD and he gets to be a part of their rise to contention.
Debrusk miscalculates the FA market and winds up with lack of good options and opts for a top 6 staple roll to try and increase his value.
I’m not saying this is a slam dunk option, I’m saying I’m hopeful sharks can make these kind of deals</div></div>
Hmm, well I won't say it's impossible. However, at least with Debrusk I can be pretty confident that a team like EDM could find room for him in their top-6 if his goal was to increase his value while also still likely getting his 3 to 4mil.

Hopeful plans for the future part 1
Debrusk should be looking for term (which he'll likely get at around 4 to 4.5mil) and I can't imagine Montour choosing to go to a team in the basement. Roslovic is more of a possibility as he'll likely be seeking to sign somewhere with opportunities to play in the top-6 and I don't see many teams offering him 4mil.

I guess I just don't think Ullmark will return much more than that. I see that value as being a bit shy of a 1st and Turcotte as being exactly the kind of young player that BOS could unlock. Agree to disagree.

An Outsiders Vision - ANA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jded</b></div><div>Necas for Z doesn’t make sense for ANA. Fill a hole on RW by opening one at LW with someone who also fills in really well at C whenever McT or Leo are injured. Necas is an absolute steal on his current deal, but will almost certainly be overpaid starting next year for the duration of his new contract. He has solid production, but all his advanced stats are very concerning. Im out on him for ANA, but totally the right move for CAR to shop him
Any top 6 RW on a 2 year deal is a good add. Thats the perfect amount of term for ANA
We could really use a better RD than Chat though. Roy from LA is my preference rn
On the RFAs let Grouxl walk. Possibly Jones. Lacombe costs more. And though I like Vaak, the team did seem to prefer Lindstrom
Positionally Gauthier on the wing with Leo is my guess</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeneralLandro</b></div><div>I am not saying Necas is like Dubois but I will say I think the scenario might be the exact same — he will be to expensive to trade for and then he will also be to expensive to resign. I don’t think either of those will match the production
Faksa <em>could</em> be interesting but I think I’d rather just resign Isac Lundeström to play 4C
Chatfield is not a top pairing defenseman, at all
The left side on defense is going to be super interesting imo</div></div>
Fair enough on Necas. I just figured ANA was really looking for another R-shot forward for the long-term.
I agree that a better RD than Chat would be ideal but my scenario already has the best of the UFA crop going elsewhere. As I think ANA is still a couple years from competing, they'll likely have to settle for a less-than-ideal fill-in for a few years and I chose among the better ones left that would likely be interested in the opportunity for ice time in ANA.
I liked Faksa for the spot because I think be relatively in-demand (as far as cap dumps go) and would open up deployment options for their youth.
I'll keep the rest in mind in future iterations :)

As an outsider to both teams, I quite like that Lundell trade. Not sure how keen FLA fans would be on losing Lundell but if they could find a young buy-low C elsewhere (Hayton, for example), I could see them at least entertaining the idea.

Who Should Fill These Holes
Entirely too much for Desharnais in my eyes. Maximum 1.5mil, especially with 5 years of term. Just because he had a good series against a physical team like LA doesn't mean he isn't still plenty prone to being lit up by faster, offensive teams. On top of that, I'd say you're overpaying Perry (~500k), Holloway (~250k) and Broberg (~150k) by around 900k collectively. Also, don't forget Brown & Perry's bonuses will take away a decent chunk of that cap space.
As for targets, my priority goes 1.) Alex Carrier, 2.) get younger by finding some cheap guys with modest upside (Laczynski, Blankenburg, Robinson, etc), and 3.) Debrusk (if the cap allows for it).

Potential Rossi Trades
I think a good bet would be targeting a guy like Matthew Wood from NSH, who may want to accelerate their timeline to remain competitive while Josi's at his best. 6'4, great skillset, and starts playing at the University of Minnesota next year, too. May not be optimal for MIN's Kaprizov timeline, though.
Alternatively, something around Sillinger from CLB or Kasper/Danielsson from DET as I could see both teams having incentive to make such moves. Hell, a Necas trade might even be a good fit if they could make the cap work.
