<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>The problem here is Blake has in no way indicated he is even going to move PLD and with an upcoming NMC and the trade deadline looming there is almost no chance this happens from an LA stand point. So these trade threads become an echo chamber of the same issue over and over again. "PLD is no good, Kings have to add more," is moot when the Kings aren't even thought to be shopping him.

And Josh Anderson for 4 years. The whole point of PLD was to get a center to ease the loss of Kopitar. Even if this is the most the Habs want to give up, it doesn't address the Kings (and more so Blake's) primary concern, does this make LA a competitive team this year? I think I've written something to this effect for the past 2 months. I apologize for the crankiness but <strong>PLD to Montreal has such a low chance of happening and it's on this site ad nauseam.</strong></div></div>

And that's precisely the point of my post. The fact that LAK don't really need to consider PLD's NMC with regards to MTL, gives them no incentive to move him to the Habs before it kicks in. Because everyone knows Dubois would waive for MTL anyway! And yes, PLD trades to MTL are probably going keep happening on here as long as he keeps struggling (or just doesn't put in the effort).

Personally, I want nothing to do with PLD anymore, that ship has sailed. I hope he turns things around in LA. My best guess, as an outsider, as to what is happening right now with Dubois. His expectations and feelings were hurt, because he thought he'd be seen as an equal to Kopitar and above Danault, but is clearly below both of them at the moment, and it's affecting his play.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Disappointing for Winnipeg. I guess the price was just way too high for better options.

With any luck Montreal fans will be right and he'll be a positive addition.</div></div>

I know you and others are disappointed, I had this analysis que'd up but I didn't really feel like arguing with Jets fans anymore about whether or not Monahan is worth a 1st round pick, but now that the trade has happened I hope it helps you understand a bit:

<em>So a common thing I keep seeing from Jets fans is "we have Namestnikov we don't want Monahan he is a 4C on this team".

The most common thing I see is "Namestnikov is better 5v5".

At a glance this seems to be true, Namestnikov has 18 5v5 points in 44 GP at a rate of 2.03 P/60 while Monahan has 17 5v5 points in 49 GP at a rate of 1.65 P/60. However as with anything, we should consider the context.

Monahan's linemates (minimum 60 min together at 5v5):
- Anderson 250 min (9 5v5 pts in 595 min, 0.91 P/60)
- Gallagher 184 min (12 5v5 pts in 576 min, 1.25 P/60)
- Pearson 175 min (6 5v5 pts in 312 min, 1.15 P/60)
- Evans 163 min (12 5v5 pts in 581 min, 1.24 P/60)
- Armia 115 min (7 5v5 pts in 377 min, 1.11 P/60)
- Ylonen 68 min (7 5v5 pts in 338 min, 1.24 P/60)

He's not working with much, on average his linemates P/60 weighted by ice time together at 5v5 is 1.12 P/60, Monahan is +0.53 P/60 above his linemates at 5v5... he is essentially carrying them.

Now Namestnikov:
- Perfetti 389 min (17 5v5 pts in 542 min, 1.88 P/60)
- Ehlers 253 min (27 5v5 pts in 615 min, 2.63 P/60)
- Iafallo 179 min (11 5v5 pts in 588 min, 1.12 P/60)

Perfetti and Ehlers are far better linemates than anyone Monahan has to work with. On average, Namestnikov's linemates P/60 weighted by ice time together at 5v5 is 1.95, Namestnikov is +0.08 P/60 above his linemates at 5v5 so basically what you would expect.

My argument is, if you put Monahan on WPG's 2nd line with Ehlers and Perfetti I would bet you would get way more production from him at 5v5, and even better results from that line than with Namestnikov.

The next most common claim is that "Monahan benefits from powerplay time in MTL, something he surely won't get on a contender".

Powerplay Rates:
- Monahan: 5.6 P/60

- Perfetti: 5.3 P/60
- Connor: 5.2 P/60
- Scheifele: 4.4 P/60
- Iafallo: 2.5 P/60
- Niederreiter: 2.5 P/60
- Vilardi: 1.9 P/60
- Ehlers: 1.4 P/60

Looks like Monahan might be a guy that could help the Jets powerplay to me. I also notice that the Jets seem to use 2 units more balanced than most NHL teams so no matter which unit he's on he will get a decent amount of powerplay time.</em>

Anyways I truly believe Jets fans are going to be happy with this deal, Monahan has been very good on a bad MTL team this season. Hopefully he brings that to the Jets.
