Mantha trade brought up by THW
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buffbry</b></div><div>This is innacurate, it stats with kk or you aren't getting mantha and it's pretty plain and simple. We aren't taking a bunch of prospects for a guy who is a main piece of our rebuild. He and Larkin are the vets who will lead the team, trading mantha without getting a kk type of piece back sets the rebuild back another few years when we are about 1-2 years away now with what we have in the pipeline. It's kk or something equivalent or you aren't getting mantha and it's pretty clear</div></div>
You're insanely nuts.
Detroit is also much further than 1-2 years away from the rebuild being done, keep dreaming.

Mantha trade brought up by THW
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>buffbry</b></div><div>Trade starts with kk regardless of other pieces or no deal</div></div>
No it doesn't. You might wanna sit there and argue that's his value but it's not. It's not realistic.
Detroit is rebuilding and Montreal is (trying) to contend. Montreal is not going to give up a key young piece in a deal unless it's a substantial upgrade (in a Laine trade they might have, but they even walked away from that). Detroit would want young prospects and picks to help their rebuild and that's what Montreal would be willing to move.
Something with a package starting Mattias Norlinder and a 1st round pick would be the starting point.

Zajac
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Richard88</b></div><div>Helleson isn't on the table. He's Colorado's best chance at directly replacing Johnson long-term. Timmins is more available since his PMD skillset is a bit more redundant in a D group that already has Makar, Girard, Byram, and Toews, and long-term Barron and Helleson are better fits for a 3rd pairing shutdown role.</div></div>
& because of this exact reason (New Jersey knowing that Timmins doesn't fit best into your future plans) and the fact that Timmins has only 15 games of experience and an injury history/concern at 22 years old, there's no chance New Jersey is adding in a quality prospect and a pick. What people on here don't realize is that when contenders buy at the deadline, an added value is how it completes their team. New Jersey is the seller and completing Colorado. That's the value Colorado gets, the experience and better chance to go deeper in the playoffs.
Timmins and a pick for Zajac (retained) is likely a lot closer to a realistic deal. If Colorado has to have prospects and picks going with Zajac, Devils walk away. A rebuilding team doesn't give up those type of assets to move an expiring veteran and a contending team doesn't acquire those assets to contend now.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TowelPower</b></div><div>So why wouldn't the deal the OP posted equate to the Toffoli deal?
OP is willing to take 50% retention of Pearson plus take Vesey's money for a 2nd and B prospect
And add to that...with the way the Leafs are playing in the reg season that will be a late 2nd pick.</div></div>
Vesey's "money" is virtually nothing. It's a little over $200K at the deadline and his contract is fully able to be buried on the taxi squad or minors, so they have no need to move him.
The pick isn't the issue, the prospect is. Leafs trading for anyone at the deadline gets them 10-15 games of a player. Pearson is a third line player on the Leafs, it's definitely not worth giving up a quality prospect for that few of games for a third liner. Especially for someone that isn't a massive upgrade in the playoffs.
Prospects will be more valuable this year than ever due to the taxi squad and no needs for waivers. Not giving up on a good one for a guy that doesn't meet the need of the team.

You're dreaming if you think 10 games of Pearson is worth a B level prospect and a 2nd.
& Buffalo can easily make that deal at the deadline with Colorado and not need Vancouver as the middle man, and get more for Hall.

Highlights include Matthews and Marner tearing up the scoresheet, Tavares always being a threat to score, and Thornton and Spezza playing really well for free. Rielly and Muzzin aren't too bad, either. Andersen isn't perfect but he's got some great endurance. The Leafs are having another strong regular season, but that doesn't mean their 2R is better than the 1R off a recent champ.

Not Toronto. They'll just win the opening faceoff and keep the puck forever, as soon as they find 19 more Nylanders.</div></div>

Holl.
He's been drastically overrated this year and is incredibly carried by Muzzin. He's a very high risk type of player that has Muzzin to bail his ass out. Whether it's 7-3-1 or 8-1 I'd leave Holl exposed and protect Dermott. Let Seattle choose between taking Kerfoot or Holl. Both are extremely replaceable on the Leafs

Barkov every team WITH EXTENSION
So this is obviously something that happens in the off-season or next season..
You seem to expect an 2 of an organizations top 3 prospects, a 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, and another pretty useful piece that makes enough salary to attempt to balance it out (not bad enough for a cap dump but not worth their contract).
Where do you get that value you from? It seems to be FAR too high. The closest comparable trade is the Mark Stone deal. Both players are elite defensively, put up close to a point per game or over, are both leaders on their teams (Stone was an assistant at the time but became a captain), and both were same age (assuming Barkov is dealt before his 27th birthday when he'd be a UFA anyways). The only difference is that Barkov plays centre. But that value is arguable negated before Barkov has essentially said he's not signing in Florida when he hits free agency. He's also been not the quietest about the lack of fans attending games in Florida, so why incentive does he have to stay? Plus many owners have taken a hit financially due to the pandemic so a high valued extension for Barkov would be less likely if they have to give up multiple good, young prospects that's make league entry salaries. Florida risks either losing him for nothing in free agency, or taking what they can get in a trade.
Ottawa traded Stone and Tobias Lindberg for Erik Brannstrom, Oscar Lindberg, 2nd round pick (61st overall as it was originally Dallas' pick). So let's say Barkov even gets a bit more because he's a centre: but how does that justify 2 top prospects, a 1st round pick, 2nd round pick, and a useful roster player?
I think a Barkov deal is more looking like 1 top prospect, a mediocre prospect, 1st round pick, and a young roster player with upside.
Because of that, none of the proposed deals make any sense and they're overvaluing a guy based on his name and not his actual value.

Cool. Fans that likely know nothing about analytics and are likely 50+ years old so all the know is old school hockey. Sorry, it's new school and old school is out. You can't assault your way to a cup now, the league has changed and is constantly changing to avoid hockey like that. Wilson is nothing more than a suspension risk. With his history, those are only going to get longer. No need for that in Toronto. At least if the cost is Nylander who can be such a game changer and X factor

Just re-read this (bored) and really, since Wilson started playing on a top line, his offense is pretty darn close to Nylander's. Over the last two seasons, Nylander has two more points than Wilson, but Wilson has five more even strength points. http://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20182019&seasonTo=20192020&gameType=2&position=R&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=points,goals,assists&page=0&pageSize=50
So I was posting this as if Mikheyev was still on the up-swing. Pittsburgh fans chimed in that with Mikheyev's hand injury he might be done, so there's absolutely no incentive for the Caps to downgrade 1RW on offense, defense, PK, and toughness. With all due respect to Nylander's takeaways and passing, Wilson is better and cheaper.</div></div>
& Wilson only gets production because of the line-mates he plays with. Nylander actually drives play. If you think for a second that Wilson is a better play driver or offensive creator, yours just nuts.
It's a terrible deal for Toronto. Live with it.

Leafs likely pass. Mikheyev is too important to the bottom 6 and PK. Wilson doesn't fill that need and Hagelin just isn't as good as Mikheyev on the PK. Leafs are also giving up more offence between Nylander and Wilson, not to mention the suspension worry with Wilson. & If you're balancing the cap out there's really no incentive for Toronto at all.

In reality, it wouldn't cost that much. The market isn't gonna be high for a 35 year old goaltending that while has good numbers, ha splayed on an extremely well coached defensive system team for 3 years in Dallas and before that was nothing more than an average backup. Throw in that Dallas is likely gonna have to expose him to Seattle or lose him for nothing (or make a side deal that they still have to give up a valuable asset for), and numbers aside, his trade value isn't going to be that high.
I'd be shocked to see either one of them moved for more than a 2nd and a low B prospect. Dallas doesn't have much leverage at all in trade talks.
