Mantha trade brought up by THW

Créé par: ColonelX

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
TLDR:
-Byron is being moved for cap reason and his leadership is a part of why Detroit wants him.
-Kulak has good advanced stats and can bring something to a subpar defensive unit.
-Detroit wants either Poehling or Primeau added to the deal, Montreal declines Primeau right away but accepts for Poehling.
-Convo starts with a 1st.

What do you guys think about that? Who says no?
Cap fits good and you do add a quality player that has a rough start and has already been scratched this season. To me I don't think Poehling has much future in Montreal since he showed up way out of shape at the 2020 playoffs, may be wrong but there's a reason why he isn't playing 12-13 minutes as our 4LW/4C this year in Montreal.
Kulak and Byron are serviceable NHLers but depth ones which for whom we should have replacements already available (Weal for Byron and Fleury/Mete for Kulak).
If Poehling is being moved that'll leave only KK, CC and Guhle as our first rounds picks still with the team... Be real our first round picks are below average so it'd be nice to use them at their full value (This one should be in the twenties with Mantha coming in).

I know I’m a bit biased since I’m a Wings fan but this looks like a poor offer to me. None of those pieces have much value to Detroit outside of the picks. I know Mantha’s gotten off to a slow start but I wouldn’t trade him at his lowest value when he’s been great the past couple years and still has plenty of time to bounce back. I think he’ll benefit from a coaching change which will likely take place after this season since Blashill is coaching a super defensive style to limit chances from the other team.

Why in the world do Habs fans immediately go to the "Byron=Leadership!!!" card when they add him into trades. He's a friggin' cap dump, guys!

There's no way Detroit does this.

So a cap dump, a bottom six center prospect, a 27 year old with great advanced stats that isn’t ED exempt playing an average of 13 min a night, and a first + second round pick. Detroit says no as this is a quantity vs quality trade. Pieces I think that Yzerman would be after, picks, Kotkaniemi, & Romanov (obviously not together).

Agreed. Mantha is one of your top 2-3 players. He's locked up for a reasonably decent length of time, and selling him when his counting stats suck, but his underlying stats are solid, seems like a very, very bad move (Unless you get a haul, which this isn't).

No it doesn't. You might wanna sit there and argue that's his value but it's not. It's not realistic.

Detroit is rebuilding and Montreal is (trying) to contend. Montreal is not going to give up a key young piece in a deal unless it's a substantial upgrade (in a Laine trade they might have, but they even walked away from that). Detroit would want young prospects and picks to help their rebuild and that's what Montreal would be willing to move.

Something with a package starting Mattias Norlinder and a 1st round pick would be the starting point.

This is innacurate, it stats with kk or you aren't getting mantha and it's pretty plain and simple. We aren't taking a bunch of prospects for a guy who is a main piece of our rebuild. He and Larkin are the vets who will lead the team, trading mantha without getting a kk type of piece back sets the rebuild back another few years when we are about 1-2 years away now with what we have in the pipeline. It's kk or something equivalent or you aren't getting mantha and it's pretty clear

The trade looks really cluttered to me.

Only thing I have to say is in the summer habs fans were ready to trade Domi, Mete, a 1st, and a B prospect for Mantha and wings fans said no way.

While Mantha would still have a lot of value to MTL (not that much amymore), I can honestly say Domi and a 3rd for Anderson worked out a lot better.

You're insanely nuts.

Detroit is also much further than 1-2 years away from the rebuild being done, keep dreaming.

They will be competitive in 2 years bud. Next year is last bad year. Bottom line is you don't get mantha without kk

LOL.. funniest comment I've heard.

Competitive in 2 years with no goaltending? Competitive in 2 years with no defence? Because all of the average prospects in their system are guaranteed to work out? & because Yzerman is GM and had success in Tampa then the prospects in Detroit HAVE to work out that great as well? None of that is true.

Man, 25 years of making playoffs really goes to show Wings fans don't know anything about how to rebuild. The team has been irrelevant since winning the cup in 2008, which was 13 years ago. It takes longer to rebuild than 3 seasons bud.

great response. classy argument point from someone that knows nothings and has to resort to useless facts to justify a point that has no relevance to the conversation.

*also, if you'd do even a little bit of research you'd know that I'm not a Montreal fan, I follow the Leafs more. & they haven't won since 1967 and are now one of the top teams in the league after going through a long and tough rebuild. So yeah, I think I know how to see a rebuild progressing when there's one.

Great talk though kid.

I did a TLDR of the article from The Hockey Writers, if you want to go double check there yourself to make sure I didn't create words to sound like an homer you may proceed.

That's very optimistic. Your two most valuable players today are UFAs in 2 and 3 years respectively and you have no high end goaltender coming in from your pipeline in the next couple of years. In no way I don't think your team's on the right path but if you expect your team to be playoffs relevant in two years you'll most likely going to be disappointed. Young guys not named McDavid or Matthews will need some time to learn in the NHL and be good top 6 guys. Seider, Veleno, Raymond and Berggren will be good players but building a winning mentality takes more than 1 or 2 years with a young team. Have a chat with Edmonton and Arizona fans, they're still looking for that mentality after years.

I don't know who Devin Little is, but I trust Yzerman a lot more than him. The fact that the "prospect" was between Primeau and Poehling (Primeau >>> Poehling) should be what allows us to take this with a grain of salt.

I also wouldn't outright call you a homer grin

You said have been irrelevant since 2008, so I was just pointing out the same bud. Leafs are a whole different story that I don't need to get into.

Arizona and Edmonton are not run correctly, it's different. We have been rebuilding for a while. I didn't say they are Stanley cup team in 2 years, I said they will be competitive. We can get a goalie, not workers about it. Plenty of them out there to grab
