Point Offer sheet
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mnwild17</b></div><div>Not entirely sure of Tampa’s Cap situation but taking a quick look it looks like they have 12 mill that off season available with only 10 players signed. Even if Johnson goes to Seattle, it’s still only 17 mill with 9 players signed. Not a ton of cap space I think.</div></div>
again, Killorn is an easily moveable contract at that time. So add another $4.5M to that cap space.$21.5M isn't a bad start. Cernak is also an easy move that off-season if need be. There's another $3M of cap space.
So many people on here use the excuse of cap space as a reason why a team isn't gonna sign one of their star players if an offer sheet gets thrown out, but every time they're wrong. Teams find a way to keep their best players. Tampa found a way to keep not 1, but 3 of them this season. They'll figure it out long before that off-season even starts.

Qualifying offers don't mean much. They're only a 1 year term, if Point wanted longer term a deal of $9M x 6 years makes a ton more sense than a $9.5M qualifying offer

Point Offer sheet
Perfect centre for Minnesota, but Tampa matches it easily. Palat comes off the books the same year as Point and Killeen would only have 1 year left which would be a highly moveable contract to open up more than enough space to re-sign Point

If I Were Keefe
I think Kerfoot has played his last game at centre for the Leafs unless injuries happen.
I wouldn't mind seeing him try Matthews with other wingers to start to see what happens, to at least keep Tavares going.

It Should Be Lafreniere for Eichel
The problem I see is how much of an improvement in the long run is it? Taking on Eichel also means his $10M cap hit which is gonna make it hard to re-sign guys like Zibanejad, Shestyorkin, Fox, Kakko, Chytil, Miller, etc.
I get that you've re-signed them here but there's no guarantee they sign for that amount. Losing Zibanejad to UFA puts them tight back where they're at now and in dire need of a good 2C. You'd be banking on Chytil to take that jump which I'm not so sure he will. Pretty risky

Playoff Depth
"Playoff depth" yet you've given the team no depth at centre behind Matthews and Tavares. What happens if one of them get hurt?
Bennett is not a centre. He's a winger and has been playing it for awhile. Savard would be a nice addition... in the off-season. What they need now is a depth d-man and a 3C that's defensively responsible. You've given them none of that.

Eichel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>According to the guys on NHL radio today, the cost for Eichel is the following:
1st round pick in the next draft (likely 2022, NHL radio guys think trade won't happen before 2021 draft)
Team's 2nd and 3rd best prospects (teams will balk at the request for their best prospect)
"Good" roster player
Cap Dump
In LA's case, that would likely be this:
2022 1st Round pick
Turcotte + Kaliyev
Adrian Kempe
Jeff Carter
I wouldn't do that if I was LA. That's too much to give up for one player.</div></div>
honestly, this offer is a lot closer than this post. I doubt it'd be Carter going though, he likes it too much in LA. But a package around Turcotte and Kaliyev would be a good start. But any deal I'd be shocked to not see at least 2 1st round picks (1 being protected) in.
If LA gets a top 5 pick this years draft, I could see something like this working then Buffalo also gets a high end d-man as well. Then next year's first would be playoff protected.

LA rejects. They're not moving Byfield, even if it's for Eichel. Byfield has a better upside than what Eichel is right now. Byfield is similar to an Auston Matthews or Evgeni Malkin type of player, both are better types of players than Eichel. Byfield also fits LA's core age group better.
If Eichel goes to LA, it likely starts with Turcotte, not Byfield.

TDL upgrades
I'd keep Engvall for 4C and look to get a different 3C. Shaw is nothing that will help this team, and I'm pretty sure he's out all season with a concussion. Even when healthy he's not worth just the picks alone.
I'd look at other centres for the spot though. Guys like Bonino, Bleuger, Zajac, Danault, McCann (as a winger), etc. will all fit the team better and come at a reasonable price.

Leafs after expansion
smarter to protect Dermott over Holl. Dermott's really progressed this season and if Seattle takes Holl then it opens up a spot for Dermott in the top 4 and it opens the door for Liljegren to come up. I'd say if Holl is on this team next season then Liljegren is likely on the trade market, there's just no room for him with Brodie being the long term 1RHD, Holl plays good with Muzzin at 2RHD, and Liljegren isn't suited for 3RHD.
I also think it's highly likely that Toronto offers Liljegren in a side deal with Seattle to assure they take Hutchinson in the draft to leave their normal roster untouched.

"can't say this team is worse" -- actually, it's quite easy to say that.
The main change in the Leafs game this year has been the defensive responsibility from the forwards. Where's that at here? Your bottom 6 is full of old vets that are slow and have almost no defensive game left. Getzlaf, Simmonds, Thornton, and Spezza would get eaten alive.
Also, where's the offence from the back end? There has to be someone passing the puck to the forwards so they can get a chance to create some offence. But you've traded away they're top puck moving d-man for nothing that helps.
Who's gonna kill penalties? Marner, Hyman, Mikheyev are the only forwards to do that. None of them are centres so they're not gonna have any puck control and the PK is gonna go down the drain. Spezza only takes faceoffs on the PK right now because he's been dominant on them. But then he quickly gets off for an actual PKer. They need guys who can stay out there from the draw and kill them.
This team wouldn't even make playoffs let alone win a round. Leave the team as it is for now. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. They're 1st in the league and all the fans wanna do is fix them? They're one of the top offences in the league. One of the top defensive teams in the league. Have a deadly powerplay. Have a PK that's greatly improved. Have depth at goaltending for once.
Leave it be. Don't mess it up.
Edit: It's also hilarious that you title this "Brian Burke" and then trade away Morgan Rielly when Burke was the guy who drafted Rielly and said they had him ranked #1 after only maybe a dozen or so games in his draft year. Comeon' now.

NYR Deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bcarlo25</b></div><div>He lead the NHL in goals per game last year.
You’ve offered a bunch of junk.</div></div>
Didn't realize one stat from last year affected his play this year..ever heard of a fluke year? Players have bad ones and people talk about it, but if they have a good one all of a sudden that term is forgotten about.
That "bunch of junk" couldn't be a more ignorant comment. Dermott has taken massive progress this year and has shown why he could be a top 4 d-man (especially when the Rangers have been looking for one). Kerfoot has shown he's a good versatile player to move up and down the lineup, and play both centre and wing on a relatively cheap contract. Doesn't produce a ton but is a great fore checker with tons of speed. Abramov has been tearing up the QMJHL for 3 years now. Sure he's small and was drafted late, but you know who else tore apart the same league and is also small? Connor Garland. So Abramov is certainly not "junk". & a 1st round pick is what you make of it, could be a draft steak at that point or a useful trade chip later down the road for another piece.
Hot take: Toronto doesn't make this deal or consider it. Zibanejad is a 3C on their team, that's not where he's best useful at and they wouldn't get top production outta him. They're not gonna give up 2 players that are very useful in their roles currently for that. They've been patient with Dermott for a reason, they love his game. One of the best skaters on the team and probably in the league. Kerfoot has proved valuable when injuries have happened on the wing and at centre. This also leaves them with not the appropriate amount of qualified forwards to leave exposed to Seattle unless they extend someone and risk losing them. All that for a guy that's gonna walk in less than a season and a half? They need a defensive 3C and there's guys out there that are better suited for that that will be cheaper. Phillip Danualt, Nick Bonino, Teddy Bleuger, Travis Zajac, etc will all be far cheaper and fit the role better.
Still comical that you continue to troll an entire team and call their players junk without actually knowing.

great response. classy argument point from someone that knows nothings and has to resort to useless facts to justify a point that has no relevance to the conversation.
*also, if you'd do even a little bit of research you'd know that I'm not a Montreal fan, I follow the Leafs more. & they haven't won since 1967 and are now one of the top teams in the league after going through a long and tough rebuild. LOL.. funniest comment I've heard.
Competitive in 2 years with no goaltending? Competitive in 2 years with no defence? Because all of the average prospects in their system are guaranteed to work out? & because Yzerman is GM and had success in Tampa then the prospects in Detroit HAVE to work out that great as well? None of that is true.
Man, 25 years of making playoffs really goes to show Wings fans don't know anything about how to rebuild. The team has been irrelevant since winning the cup in 2008, which was 13 years ago. It takes longer to rebuild than 3 seasons bud.
