Well in order for a Leafs trade to be fair on this site it has to be an overpayment

It’s still better to get something rather than nothing, let Seattle take some scrub either way you’re only going to have one of them next season

No he isn’t going to return to his all word form, this is what impacts declining and aging curves look like. The numbers are showing a trend over the past few years of a decline of play, chances are this is who he is for the majority of his career with spurts of incredible play vs him coming back as a top goalie. Its not just a 11 game stretch, its started multiple seasons ago

Honestly it's ill-advised to pass on goalie prospects. In my mind you should have a good amount of them because they're so unpredictable. As much as Dostal looks great if he flops and you trade Gibson you're screwed.

that was cold blooded. Killer move to do MTL fans like that, that quickly after the loss. I love it.
Seriously tho if MTL is out he'd be a great option to form a defensive 3rd line around

Yep, so many things wrong with the Leafs this season. 1st in their division. 3rd in NHL scoring. 10th in GAA. And the team has had injuries.
I've seen so many moronic trades trying to tweak the team by taking away so much from the current team, while adding bottom enders from other teams.
Now the players mentioned here aren't necessarily bottom enders but geez, what is the purpose?

Absolutely head scratching
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>It's also cap management for a low budget team. Putting Henrique on waivers makes him eligible for the taxi squad which saves his daily cap hit each day he's on the taxi squad. If he clears, they can move him between the roster and taxi squad and NHL roster without worry of waivers for 30 days and accumulate cap space. If he gets claimed, the team gets out of an overpaid player without giving up additional assets and it saves them more money.
Fans need to read when they see guys go on waivers. This season especially when it was a flat cap. Nick Suzuki got sent down to the taxi squad too, it was purely a cap move. Many teams have done it.
Chill.</div></div>
Preach man. He's sucked and if he gets claimed we get out of a not great contract. If he doesn't, Eakins has come out and said he'll continue to get a shot, maybe he boosts his value enough to get traded. We probably shouldn't have extended him, but it looked like he was actually living up to the contract last year. He just fell off a cliff this season and guys like Lundestrom have pushed their way into a roster spot, making him very expendable.

Staal please
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>I don't understand the Leafs fans hype around asking for Staal. He's not what they need. They need a defensive 3rd line centre, not an offensive one. The team has enough guys to score, and its obvious Kerfoot needs to play the wing. Keefe wants the third line to be a shutdown line and Staal isn't gonna be in the Selke conversation anytime soon.
Low key guys to target:
1. Nick Bonino
2. Travis Zajac
3. Riley Nash
all fit the role better and can kill penalties while winning faceoffs (Nash is a bit weaker at faceoffs but he's still a career 48% on draws) & I think trying to acquire any of those guys would likely only cost a pick, not any roster players or decent prospects. I'd be cautious to remove anyone from the roster, even keep Engvall.</div></div>

Gotta fit it under the cap too. All good points here. I don’t think staal is awful defensively. With Hyman and Mikheyev that one would still be solid and produce offensively as well.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>I'm not saying you're wrong, but I think a contending team makes the centrepiece of the deal the 1st to give up the lower prospect. Beak cause of the pandemic I feel like better prospects will be more valuable to a team to call up when needed this year. If this was a regular year, yeah I'd say a mid round pick and a guy like Liljegren. But this year I feel like regardless of where Liljegren is at, he'll be valuable as a call up.
I agree that the team seems to view Liljegren a bit differently now (wrong to give up on him already, he's battled injuries and still produced at a top AHL level) but I don't think it's gone south enough to throw him away for a rental this season when it's a lower amount of games.</div></div>
I get the sense you value the defense and face off ability more than the offense at the deadline, which is reasonable. I’m in the boat that you could have both buy giving up a 1st and 3rd plus 2 prospects. We will see how it plays out. From a Wild perspective, any of the Bonino trades we’ve discussed would be seen as wins in Minnesota.
This is likely the leafs best shot and the year to throw around draft capital like candy.

Should the leafs be interested in him? sure, but they shouldnt be paying good assets for him.
the difference between Bonino and Goodrow is pretty significant and they arnt comparable. Goodrow was 26 and putting up good defensive numbers and above average offensive numbers for a guy playing a depth roll on a bad team. He also makes less than half of what Bonino makes after this trade and there was zero retention and an extra year.</div></div>
Deployment matters, top 6 offensive deployment and line mates are really impacting him. He’s only been put in a checking role in the last 3 games and he looks as advertised, and still fast and winning draws.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>Just because a team is at the bottom of the standings, doesn't mean that every player on that team sucks. Minnesota has had horrible goaltending this year which is the main reason they're lower in the standings.
Also, that player that you seem to hate so much for the Leafs finished 12th in Selke Trophy last season. 12 games this season with terrible goaltending doesn't change that.</div></div>
As you pointed out above, Bonino has been settling in the bottom 6 and is starting to look the part again. Not being on the power play helps you remember what he’s there for. I have a very strong feeling that first is going to go towards Granlund but maybe a 2nd/3rd and a guy like Liljegren or SDA? I get the sense TOR has soured a bit on Liljegren.

Amazing What 16 Games Does to an Ego
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>Not gonna lie, Hawks fans have gotten way too overhyped this year for a team that's really not that good. They should look forward to sticking to the rebuild plan to make sure it's a contender for multiple years again, and not just make the playoffs this season to get swept out in the first round.
They're second in the division in terms of points, but really they're 4th. The e league has already said if they can't fit in all the games this season by May 8 then they're going by points percentage to determine playoff spots. Chicago has played 18 games which is tied for the most with Detroit & 4 of those have come against Detroit which should be an easy 8 points for any team. Despite all the talk, they're goal differential is still only +1 which is not good for a playoff team. The biggest overhype so far has been with Lankinen. Sure, he has spectacular stats so far this season. But it's only been 12 games which is a hot streak, not a telling of what he is. Of those 12 games, 3 of them have come against Detroit. That's 25% of his starts against one of the worst teams to play in history. Chill.
On the plus side, Kane's looked good and upped his play even more. Definitely in MVP consideration if Chicago can sneak into the playoffs. They're rookies have looked good and not overwhelmed, and have done so without Toews and Dach, major plus for the future.
Realistically, this team is likely to fall off once the league catches up in games played and all the hype talk will go away and the "oh well we won 3 cups half a decade ago" talk will come back from most Hawks fans. Which is a shame because there are good ones out there, but the arrogant ones usually get the headlines.
As for the trades, I wouldn't give up on Boqvist yet. He's young and d-man tend to take longer to develop properly anyways. He can be such a game changer with his skating and playmaking ability. The fact that he's a right handed d-man will explode his value when he takes off, so I'd wait on him. I've said it since he was drafted and I scouted him in London, he's the right handed version of Jake Gardiner. Love him when he's at his best, but when he's not he's very noticeable. But he'll be the guy to quarterback any power play in the league. Just be patient, which is the most important thing during a rebuild. Don't run your best young talent outta town before they get good or it'll be an even longer rebuild.</div></div>
I dont necessarily think we will fall off this year because there are really only 2 top teams in our division right now (Florida and TB) so any regression will likely be masked by playing not great opponents, but I think next year if the schedule opens up again and we have to play teams like the Caps, Leafs, Habs, VGK, etc we will be exposed. The reason I think Hawks fans (myself included) have gotten overhyped this season is because its been a minute since we were able to care about hockey. The past two years have just been sad indifference, and now I get to care about games again and get upset when we lose and shout when we win. Most of us know at this point it would be dumb as hell to trade our 1st rounders or Reichel or some of our more ready prospects to get someone at the deadline, but if there is any year to root to sneak into the playoffs, its gonna be this one, because the draft this year is gonna be more of a crapshoot then normal.
