The rangers will trade for a center and it will cost a 1st.
You know what I'm so certain, I'll make you a deal.
If they don't get a C or get one for a 2nd or less I'll leave the site. If they pay a 1st then you quit.

Sounds good. 2nd and Kakko is a discount. Shut up and stop wasting both our time.

Why wouldn't he get a first?
When he was traded last year his statline was:
29 games, 4 goals, 10 assists, 14 points, -12
He went for a 1st + 4th at a $2.375M cap hit.
His stat line is pretty similar right now to what it was this time last year. I don't think he fetches a 1st+ but all his money is in Salary bonuses. So I can see
Bert (50% retained) + 5th to a third team to retain another (25th) + 5th for 1st.
So a team gets him at $1.375 + 5th for a 1st.

I don't think it's a matter of desperation.
It's a matter of supply/demand.
The only Cs on the top 40 trade bait board are Henrique and Dowd.
Rangers need a 3C unless they are gonna play an AHL journeyman there in the playoffs.
Colorado likely wants to upgrade on Johansen
Boston needs a top 6 C
Devils could use a bottom 6 C to replace McLeod
There just isn't enough out there so the price is higher than in past years.

Domi and Bert should get a 1st.
Domi would definitely be the best C on the market.
Bert would arguably be the best W.

Interesting strategy. We'll see how that goes.
As for the OP. This would be smart for Toronto cause they just don't have it this year. But I'm not sure they are sellers. NYR would be crazy not to take this. Bertuzzi is above a PPG in the playoffs, Domi also has a stellar playoff record, and Robertson is arguably a better prospect than Kakko or Cuylle (at the very least with less TOI he's outscoring them) a 1st to NYR as well. I hesitate to use strong language but if NYR got offered this it could be a fireable offense to turn it down.</div></div>

And Domi is barely an upgrade over brodzinski</div></div>
Buyout would be a massive mistake.
They would have a $3.5M cap hit in the season when Cuytle, Laf and Miller all need new deals with Panarin still on the books.
A buyout helps next season, is 100k less the year after then could cost them a great young player in the third year then there are three more years that you wouldn't have with retention. It's just a horrible decision. It be shocked if they do it.

Those stats might be wrong but a Robertson trade makes loads of sense for Calgary. It also makes a Coleman/Mangiapane trade easier for the Flames. Since they have more cap space and a roster player so they can retain and take picks.
If they did this trade them moved Coleman for a 1st and 3rd they will have picked up 4 A/A- young assets for two guys might not contribute when the team is competitive.

Fair enough. I wouldn't be shocked if he got like a 3rd and 5th like Zadorov. He's hugely underrated IMO. Pretty physical great defensively. He just hasn't shown he can play well against top lines.

He is out for the year. That's a minimum of 6-8 weeks recovery which puts it at April. Hold him out 2 more weeks, give him a 2 week conditioning stint in the minors and he's back for the playoffs (best case).

Seeler won't fetch a 2nd. If Luke Schenn playing top line minutes last year only got a 3rd and Flames are asking a 2nd for Tanev then Seeler is getting a 3rd max.

This is very good.
Flyers trade only happens if they think they can make the playoffs. Even then Leafs likely add a 5th.

It's not hyperbole if you watch them both play. Matthews himself has said many times that he has Robertson giving him pointers on his shot.
When they are on the ice together Robertson is the only player Matthews consistently defers to in front of the net. Even the second last game in OT Matthews twice forced a pass to Robertson instead of taking the shot himself.

Rangers would be crazy not to take this. They need a 3C. Bert gives them a much better top 9 winger. He's PPG in the playoffs.
Kakko isn't worth more than a 2nd. Then it's a 1st for a 3rd.
It's a crazy good deal for NY.
