Paying 1sts for rentals almost never works out. If the team wasn't good enough to win without whomever you paid that for, that one guy isn't going to make you so much better that you go from pretender to contender. That's why I wouldn't pay a 1st for anyone unless I was reasonably confident that my team was already good enough but I want to solidify a few soft spots or get quality depth.

He went for a 1st + 4th at a $2.375M cap hit.

His stat line is pretty similar right now to what it was this time last year. I don't think he fetches a 1st+ but all his money is in Salary bonuses. So I can see

Bert (50% retained) + 5th to a third team to retain another (25th) + 5th for 1st.

So a team gets him at $1.375 + 5th for a 1st.

There's a very good reason for the Avs to decline, above and beyond all the questions of fit and cost (if it's true), and that is the oft-repeated rumour that MacK & the rest of the Avs locker room leadership black balled him previously. If that's true then the Avs are unlikely to move for Domi and upset the rest of the team.

Dowd won't fetch a first and Rico is the most likely target for the Avs though I'm not sure any of the remaining 'available' centres are a good fit for the Avs. It may well end up being something way out of left field with the Avs.

Sure, value-wise maybe it's correct. With the Avs it's more about if that rumour is true. IIRC there are two guys basically reputed to be have been blocked in the past and Domi is one of them (barring former Avs returning, no idea how Dutchy or ROR would go down with the locker room as acquisitions for example) with Garland being the other. How much is true though.....?
