(DET/ANA) - Fabbri, 2025 4th (BOS) for Alexander
I voted Fair Deal because all three sides come out well. Nice deal for Detroit because the Red Wings move a player and contract they didn't want, very good deal for Anaheim because the Ducks pick up a fourth-round draft pick, and GREAT deal for us Anaheim fans who now no longer have to listen to the nincompoop chorus singing about Anaheim having to reach the cap floor.

Last day of CF
A third for Kakko.
Vatrano and full retention for the first and Edstrom.
The store is closed. I don't think that Trevor Zegras is on the market and if he is, we'd want a 2025 second plus either Gabe Perreault or Braden Schneider for him. No interest in the undersized Berard, the goalie prospect rendered redundant by having four goalie prospects in the pipeline right now, the decent LW prospect when we have 4 similar ones in the pipeline right now, or the window-dressing draft picks.

We don't need Ekblad <strong>THAT</strong> badly.
And we're not trading our 2025 for anyone short of Bedard or Celebrini.

Someone may give you more than a sixth for Timmins, but it won't be Anaheim.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>And what's the plan to remain cap compliant come the deadline when, supposedly, Dumolin and Vatrano are flipped at 50%? Will the Ducks be taking on cap dumps for free at the deadline? What's the point of acquiring a "better" player for $1M if the only goal for the Ducks this year is to secure another lottery pick and not get hosed on any upcoming Zegras trade?
Be objective. Ceci would automatically be the second-best right handed NHL defender in the Ducks' organization. Unless the plan is to bring Helleson, Luneau, or Warren up prematurely (bringing in Dumolin already points to sheltering Zellweger) and risking their development by asking too much of them too soon on a team destined to be in the bottom five of the league again, it's a smart trade that Anaheim can bail on by the deadline to then open up room for whichever prospect RHD has earned it in San Diego. Verbeek doesn't need to overpay Lacombe and throw money at a no-name UFA to hit the cap floor. A far smarter approach is to bridge Lacombe appropriately and pay a meager price on Ceci. Feed the "bad" RHD to the wolves instead of the kids that Anaheim needs to see complete NHL players over the next two seasons.</div></div>
All good points. But I'd still rather pay for a forward than Ceci. It will be interesting to see how Pat Verbeek handles this issue.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Ceci was third in 5v5 TOI among Oilers defensemen during the playoffs. You clearly don't like him but smarter men obviously appreciate what he brings.
He's not a cap dump.</div></div>
It's untrue that I don't like Ceci; it's just that I don't think that he fills any need for Anaheim (including the falsely perceived one that we'll have trouble getting across the $2.7 million gap to the cap floor) who I believe would decline this offer without an incentive. We have 6 defensemen on the roster now plus RFA Jackson LaCombe, plus Drew Helleson and Tristan Luneau coming up, so Ceci simply isn't a fit for us. Other teams might and should pay at least a fifth for him; I don't think that the Ducks should.
I purposely didn't use the phrase "cap dump" because I think that your motivation in wanting to trade him is to open up the roster slot and give yourselves a small bit of cap relief, not to get rid of his cap hit entirely. One final note: the Ducks have a serious antipathy towards underwater contracts, even ones by so little as the sum here.

New Lineup
The Ducks are all of $2.7 million under the cap floor with two roster slots to fill, one of whom belongs to RFA Jackson LaCombe. They won't be needing artificial means to get over the hump. I'd rather sign a UFA who's still skating, like Jack Roslovic or even Vladimir Tarasenko.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>Ceci doesn't have Walman's term, the Ducks failed to add enough to get to the cap floor this week, and a minute-munching RHD from a SCF roster will have value, even if minimal in the face of what lack of value his name brings.
A late round pick to offer Edmonton the cap relief they're after while finding another asset to flip at the deadline is tidy business for both clubs.</div></div>
The Ducks are $2.7 million short of the cap floor, they can re-sign Jackson LaCombe for $1.75 million and then fill the 23rd roster slot with a $1 million player better than Cody Ceci.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rex2537</b></div><div>a rebuilding team adding a prospect, a second round pick and two players in positions of need for a goalie who wants to move on seems like a fair deal for both parties involved</div></div>
Not when the goalie doesn't want to move on and is better than the goalie coming back, the two players in position of need are being jettisoned because they stink, the second-round pick isn't in 2025, and the prospect duplicates 4 other prospects in the pipeline already who therefore are ahead of the incoming prospect in development, No, it's not anything close to an appealing trade for the Ducks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rex2537</b></div><div>ducks should probably get some warm bodies in that line up, a prospect, a defenseman and a goalie replacement seems like a good start. ANA needs to hit the salary floor so retaining 1.5 along with holl and husso would only help</div></div>
1. Holl and Husso aren't warm bodies, they're warmed-over veterans. And James won't be ready to join anyone's lineup for at least two more seasons.
2. Holl and Husso aren't a good start to anything; they're on the back side of their careers.
3. James is a nice prospect but we have at least 4 LW prospects whose futures are just as bright.
4. Anaheim is only $2.7 million away from reaching the cap floor with Jackson LaCombe still to sign and one more roster slot to fill. We don't need to take any further artificial steps to reach the cap floor now that we traded for Brian DuMoulin.
5. In short, we might give you a middling draft pick for James if he were on the market, which he shouldn't be, but we wouldn't pick Holl or Husso up off waivers, so this unappetizing stew isn't close to getting John Gibson.

Anaheim has holes at RW and RD and 6 LDs on the roster right now, so you want us to trade you one of our LDs and take back two of yours plus a LW???
With roster construction ideas like that, it's no wonder you guys haven't made the playoffs in the cap era.

We'll give you a third for Kakko and we'll give you Vatrano with 50% retention for your 2025 first plus either Othmann or Emery. In case you haven't noticed, we're not really in the mood to deal this summer.
Zegras isn't on the market, but if he were, we'd require Perreault or Schneider.

Most Likely Fake Zegras Rumor
UTTERLY fake. Kakko and Trouba are worth about a third each and Robertson would be our 9th LhD in the pipeline even after trading Vaakanainen (Fowler, Mintyukov, DuMoulin, Zellweger, LaCombe, Hinds, Dionicio, Solberg) and he isn't as valuable as at least four of them, so he's completely redundant. We'll trade you Vaakanainen for Kakko and if Trouba is willing to waive his NTC for Anaheim, give you a third for him and relieve you of his $8 million cap hit.

Anaheim would trade you Ryan Strome for that package, not Trevor Zegras. Kulich is a very good prospect on a par with Nathan Gaucher, but Jokiharju is a third-pairing defenseman and Krebs is a bottom-6 forward for life.

Nick DeSimone is an AHL lifer -- he'll turn 30 before he gets 50 NHL games under his belt -- so why in the world would Anaheim give you a fourth-round draft pick for him? You'll be lucky to get a future sixth-rounder for him.

Run it back for the millionth time
Colorado has 2 goalies, 7 defensemen and 12 forwards -- including Gabriel Landeskog at his normal cap hit -- under contract and $3.89 million in cap space, so even without putting Landeskog on the LTIR list, they have plenty of room to fill the last two roster spots . . . why would the Avalanche downgrade from Ross Colton to David Kampf?
